It may be project of the month, but I am still about ready to give up on it!
I have had to abort over 20 "hung" work units on the Linux machines.
They start up and then stay @ 0%, with 0 progress, and no CPU usage.
The problem is that keeps that core from doing anything until I see it and abort the WU.
All on AMD / CentOS 5.2 Linux machines. Effecting both xx00 X2's and Phenoms.
I am currently working on making up VM's to run Windozes/Boinc on these machines- which is a pain!!!!
VMWare Player will not run on a Phenom (with custom E298 Erreta patch) because the VMWare modules will not compile.
I found that error- No help from VMWare (they error out if they don't find "extern unsigned e298_bug;" in the symbol list.
But I have a "common" Windoze 2K Pro image ready to run and a new kernel built to support VMWare, so we shall see.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHH! It runs, but only shows 1 CPU!
Back to the drawing board! _________________

The problem is not linux.
I was poking through my aborted WUs and even on the first one I looked at, it was re-sent to a vista machine which had a computational error on it. Which is probably better than hanging but still not good. I found others that were sent out to other linux machines and completed successfully. All of the WUs in question were created in late January. I think they had made a run of bad WUs. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I just got my Phenoms running their VMs. They have 2 cores each running Win2K.
The X2 machines are next.
(I'd have a lot more faith in bad WU's or such if anyone from the project would even address my concerns.
I've had a post up on their board for 3 days with no "knowledgeable" responses, just other users with the same problem). _________________

Still no answer from SHA-1, so I changed everything over to VM's running Windoze. Shrubber Abuse:
