|
|
I saw another team had a Project Of The Month, trying to find out if KWSN is interested. Have we done this before? I believe the concept is all Boincers on the team must either crunch SOME work units on the project during the month or switch over to crunch ALL work units for the project during the month.
If interested, we should set up another thread with a poll of the candidate projects. Based on my sig, KWSN crunches for a lot of 'em. We need to ID the dead projects so we don't vote on those.
Possible criteria for selection as POTM:
- Move team position up in the rankings
- Value of the project to the glory of mankind
- Silliness of the project for stupidity Ni!
- Add credit to neglected projects
- Coordinate POTM with taunting activities
- Support team members who code for a project
- Overtake another team
If interested, would we want to do this every month, perhaps one month per quarter? Try it once, then decide?
Ahem, February starts tomorrow...

I personally do a project of the week. But I've no objection if we all did a project of the month instead, rather like the synergy group. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I think it's a splendid idea...
It would be nice if the ppl will leave an open slot in their BOINC clients for such a project... I'll be happy to have 1 slot in my BOINC for a monthly project to crunch on... _________________ Anyone for Crunch?

If we do this, we should probably reserve PrimeGrid for March to cover the next challenge... |

The next PrimeGrid challenge will probably continue less than 5 days...
But yes, it can be for March...
Lets do a poll to see if ppl agree to do this Project of the Month... and we should start in the 1st of February already... _________________ Anyone for Crunch?

OK, I can put up the poll - I think we'll list as many projects as possible just for fun. Again we should exclude the "dead" projects so we don't crunch for an inactive one. Here are the dead projects I'm aware of to exclude from the vote, check it - I could be wrong. Check the list in my signature...
DEAD Project List to exclude from vote:
LHC (too intermittent)
BBC Climate
Malaria Control
Predictor
Reisel Sieve
Tanpaku
Proteins
Ramsey
Any others??? _________________

A splendid idea, but will this be a monthly poll like Synergy. Or we will just follow Synergy's lead and crunch whatever project they have choosen, though I can vote in their polls as well.

A monthly poll about 1 week before the month ends will be nice... _________________ Anyone for Crunch?

I'd say vote on the kNi!ggts' most "popular" ACTIVE projects!
The AllProjectStats page (posted above) has over seventy projects listed! I have no wish to join even HALF of them! At present, I have already joined the top six and a dabbling of six more (not counting Non-BOINC). I could be persuaded to join the *most popular ones, I guess, so maybe we could dedicate to Shrub for the top twelve (active) at least one per month.

I've personally restricted myself to certain vault projects to help our team score there as well.
Poem
Docking
Sha
Sudoku
yoyo
nqueens
milkyway
These are my primary projects. good credit and good vault points. I would highly recommend them. I also do a lot of non-boinc stuff now. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I like this approach. Count me in. _________________

If I may, I have a suggestion on how to do this going forward.
Around the 10th of the month lets post a poll of 20 projects. We let the poll run until the 20th. On the 20th we post a new poll of the top 5 projects from the prior poll. That poll will run until the 30th. At that point the project with the most votes wins and we shrub that project next month.
Some rules:
1) A project that wins this month may not appear in the list for the next month. This way we dont keep shrubbing the same project over and over. So SHA would not appear in next month's poll, but could appear in the poll for April.
2) Only active projects should appear on the list.
3) Perhaps in the initial 20 projects we list more Vault projects (than not) to give the vault projects a greater chance of "winning"?
4)
5) No projects that require special hardware can appear on the list (i.e. PS3Grid)
6) I assume that given that this post is in the Boinc forum, that only Boinc projects will appear in the list?
I think running it this way we will have time to get a good vote for the winning project. By starting with 20 and trimming down to the top 5, folks that voted for a losing project will get to recast their vote for one of the top 5 and thus we will get more input on which project we will run.
In the case of a tie, I suggest we apply the following rules:
1) If one project is a vault project and the other is not, then the vault project wins.
2) If both, or neither are vault projects, then the one with the best credit wins.
3) If both give roughly the same credit, then the one where we can gain the most positions wins.
4) .

I would avoid climate prediction as well. I still have two WUs running from last year.... _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Everyone knows March 2nd is February 30th, (except leap years, in which case March 1st is February 30th), geeze _________________
