For what it's worth, I decided to crunch WCG exclusively a while back. Looks like other kanigits are ramping up too - our team ranking has surged from 138 to 116 in the last three months!

Unfortunately we're still below Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Team Japan HIV, and even Packer Fans! Embarassed

How dare a group of Cheese heads beat us.

Their credit system does suck, we got a late starts and also Al Dente says we are in the top 100 for WCG.

That's because LanDroid is quoting overall WCG (the original plus BOINC), whereas I'm using just the BOINC bit. (It makes us look a little less slovenly - I'd rather show us being in the 80's than the 120's).

And we passed Packer Fans a couple of days ago!! (but conquering Eastern Europe will have to wait a bit).

We're actually doing rather well in WCG at the moment. We languished outside the top 100 (BOINC) for ages - it was the only project where we were in 3 digits, but we've moved up ~25% in the past couple of months - considering the competition, that's a grand bit o' shrubbing.

I crunched this years ago; then moved onto other projects... But reconnecting to get the email address changed, they

1. Don't use the standard mechanism in BOINC to connect to projects
2. When I had them email my username, it was exactly what I had typed
3. Their servers take ages to mail it, so checking password will take just as long; though I can't see any reason I woulda set it different then all other projects, as I use very few passwords accross multiple things
4. If things don't get straigtened out soon, my old ISP account goes bye, bye; as in moving I've changed from a DSL provider, to my new service which is FiOS. Create another account to lose credits, meh....

Reattaching, for even 1 WU is proving problematic on old account though :thumbdwn:

You folks complain about the WCG point system, but it appears to be quite generous to me. My local BOINC client claims I have about 103,000 points. But when I check the web site, it says I have over 718,000! Far more points than I have in any other project, wazzupwidat?

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamMemberDetail.do?sort=points&teamId=4G5RSMBR9N1

I show the team has advanced to 109th place:

That's because there's a 7:1 differential between the original, pre-BOINC WCG credits and the "converted" BOINC scoring. (718,000/7 = 102,571.4385 - nigh on?)

FWIW - WCG was a pre-BOINC project with it's own client in the dim distant past. When BOINC started up, they wrapped their application(s) to run under BOINC, offering both types, hence the two scoring systems.

The scores shown on their site are a total of the "original" application (still a lot of people out there using it) and the Boinc credits (x7), though now their preferred system is BOINC.

From the stats point of view, most sites (Free-DC, BOINCstats, Stats'n'Stones, etc.) use the BOINC scores, which don't include the "original" app scores. But the DC-Vault uses the total score across both platforms.

There, that should now be as clear as ..... mud?

Are WCG servers down? Nothing can be reported, no stats?

I've been attached to cleanenergy.harvard for 3 or 4 months now, but I haven't seen any work yet. (Yes, it's also available as a stand-alone project)

I'm crunching a clean energy work unit now. Looks like it will take about 26 hours to complete, indicating large WU's compared to other WCG projects which range from 1/2 hour to 10 hours on this shrubber...

News on Clean Energy:
Quote:
We have released version 6.25 of the application. This application will avoid the issues that we experienced last week. Additionally, we have worked with Harvard to identify a number of workunits that were causing troubles and have removed them from distribution. As a result, we can resume sending work for the project.
