Big deal. All manner of crackpot ideas are very popular worldwide.

If I recall correctly, the first time Denver's MLS team played Beckham's team, when Beckham was well enough to play, we (as my son would say) "owned" them, something like 4 to 1

All the power to Beckham to get paid a bazillion dollars to barely be able to play the game any more.

The joke goes that the reason so many kids play Soccer is so they don't have to Watch it Wink

You got that right. Hockey games are usually low scoring, and they are usually quite stimulating. Soccer is BO-RING!

I saw a documentary about the price they pay to play baseball at the High School level in Japan. Spooky. It amounted to almost a boarding school, they hardly spent any time on academics, and practiced something like seven hours a day.

Then they went to a national tournament.

That is NFL hasn't taken off, 3 hours to play 60 minutes and most of the players are physical freaks. It is like watching paint dry!
It is often asked how many of your NFL superstars would last 90 mins playing rugby. Those guys have NO BODY ARMOUR

As for Beckham and the like only players well past their peak want to play in a Mickey Mouse league despite to cash on offer.

But you still only get players coming to the end of their careers. Even many of your own best players prefer to play elsewhere. To be the best you need to play the best. It is easy being world Champions if you are the only real players of anything!

Would the USA play Bangladesh at Kabadi?

And on point, Becks is trying to lengthen his career as an England sub by playing in Italy as well.

And the final word on the US fotball scene is it will never catch on until your TV stations realise that some games can't be stopped just to allow for extra commercial advertising.

But check this out for info.

You want extra commercials, watch the Super Bowl. Most regular games don't add much time for extra commercials.

Final Point. American Football Teams have Cheerleaders:

You may have hit on one of the main problems, Sir...
The Lions have never had a dedicated cheerleader squad............

You need cheerleaders to take away the boredom. Razz
Fair point about the ruby players but your gridiron is a rugby based game.

I hate rugby as well Very Happy But I bet most were surprised at the popularity of Cricket, but there are about 4 Indians and Pakistanis to every American

***2009 LIONS SCHEDULE***

September
14..........Squirrel Rapids Middle School
21..........Cub Scout Troop #101
28..........Detroit Blind Academy

October
05..........Spanish American War Vets
12..........Crippled Children's Home
19..........Eloise Mental Hospital
26..........Girl Scout Troop #353

November
02..........Detroit Venereal Disease Clinic
09..........Troy Boys Choir
16..........Korean Amputees

SPECIAL MONDAY NIGHT GAME

December
08..........Flint Boys Club

***RULE CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR***

1. When playing polio patients, the Lions must not disconnect knee braces.

2. When playing the Blind Academy, the Lions must not hide the football
under their jerseys.

3. A touchtown (this is when the ball is actually carried over the goal line
for all you Lions fans that have never seen this) is still worth 6 points.

4. The Lions will be allowed 20 men on the field at all times.

5. The Lions will be allowed to substitute with band members at any time.

6. The Lions will be awarded 10 time outs as opposed to 3 for the opposing
team.

7. The Lions will be awarded a first down with each gain of three yards or
more, instead of the usual ten yards.

***NAME CHANGE***

The Detroit Lions will be changed to the "Detroit Tampons" as they are only
good for one period and have no second string.

***COACHING CHANGES***

Rod Marinelli will be replaced by Monica Lewinsky. She will no doubt blow
a few, but she certainly won't choke on the big ones.

That's sad.
I just changed Detroit to Cleveland, and Lions to Browns and sent it to all my friends.

I suspect they won't make the playoff then either...

Not necessarily. And with soccer, it just SEEMS like 3 hours. Or maybe 3 days.

By what standard? Compared to, say, Olympic atheletes?

Clearly, you didn't see Eddie Royal make mincemeat out of the San Diego defense in his NFL debut.

1) If you think the pads actually protect players from the physical abuse they recieve, ask the 7 (yes SEVEN) Broncos running backs that were sidelined with injuries by the end of this season.

2) NFL players are "physical freaks", remember? I'd match any NFL Defensive tackle with any rugby player you want.

So, an MLS team pays a faded superstar an exhorbitant amount of money to try to create some excitement about the sport, and essentially there still isn't any, because it's not an exciting sport.

Maybe they just know we have far better pro sports to play in the U.S.! #evil

Wow! No wonder they had such a bad record LOL

Maybe they can hire Mike Shanahan, though it would take a lot to do it next season.

I would like to att to the list the number of player that have gotten permant injuries while playing American football. Some got broken necks or backs and can't walk...then there is Joe Theisman:

His right leg is not supposed to bend mid calf like that (compound fracture) He retired that night (he still can't walk properly).
