So Lloyd, does that mean you are making a run at me too?

That's hilarious. Razz According to my BOINC Statistics for the World RAC, compared the BS RAC on your sig, I'm only about 1000 RAC short to run even with you (let alone make up any ground).

I think the BS RAC is on a longer time frame than BOINC Statistics for the World, because my BS sig is still lagging the other RAC statistic as I write this.

I've got the parts for another dedicated shrubber. That might make it closer, and I'm pretty sure I would still fall short by something like 500 RAC.

That's perfectly fine with me. There are quite a number of people on our team that make my best shrubbing efforts look puny by comparison, and I'm just thankful that they're on the team.

Besides, last time I checked, I was flirting with 200th place on our team, which really isn't that bad when you think about it. And BOINC Stats thinks my overall standing is 98th percentile, which is also respectable in my book (not spectacular or noteworthy, but respectable).

Anyway, the good news is, according to BOINC Statistics for the World, I'm now moving up 80-100 places a day, versus moving down 60-80 places a day like I was before.

Are you running the optimzed SETI app? If you're not you can get another 40~50% out of her. #ni-1

Thanks for asking. Yes, that's with the optimized app. It would suck even worse without. It's just SETI being stingy.

And, last I knew, the optimized app doesn't work as well on AMD processors as it does on Intel, and every shrubber I'm still running SETI on at all has an AMD processor.

I'm pretty much fed up with those people.

"...life is like a box of chocolates..."

I'm hoping to be able to build my son a new gamer box for his birthday in March. That would have something like a Q6700 or even an i7 if the chips and mobos have come down enough by then.

His current AMD 3200 Venice would be converted to a full-time shrubber at that point.

There you go. You will begin to close the gap.

Well, this is just "druthers" at this point, and I hope to be able to do it.

Tell you what, loud and hot-running as it is, I would love to have another one or two of the same dual-Xeon box I have. Well, for $75 each, anyway (which is what I paid for the one I have).

Meanwhile, the dual-PIII untangle box may be proving to be too flaky to use for that purpose. The good news is that the untangle folks have worked out a way to install their kernel on top of a standard Ubuntu install, which means you can run still run BOIC on the same box, and not just untangle. In fact, that was the only way I could get it to work with that particular PIII mobo.

That means I could just go ahead gut it and put in the new AMD mobo I have waiting instead. What the hey, I'm only into it $35 or so, and that includes a very sturdy, heavy-guage steel 3U or so server case. It's just a BE2300 (I think) CPU, and it who knows how much more powerful that is than two 1 gHz PIIIs.

The PIII mobo does actually work, I suppose I could get a few bucks for it on ebay.
