Help - BOINC has become self-aware and is gaining control of my computer! I don't want it to run at start up, but it does anyway. I have set it to stop running when I use the computer, but it runs constantly. I suspect it starts under a different account or as a service, but I can't figure that out. I set up only two accts set up - 1 admin, 1 standard user. However I notice two other accounts: "boinc_master" and "boinc_project", both std user. I didn't set up those accts and they don't show up on the "Switch User" screen, kinda mysterious. I have disabled some start up services, but to no avail. As far as I can tell, both local and global preferences are set correctly, but I'm not positive 'bout that...
Any ideas on how to regain control of BOINC? This is under Vista...
THANKS!

HuH,,, Vista......... What's That????
Try going to Administrative tools and setting Boinc Service to manual.
or try to set preferences in Boinc to run only after comp sits idle for X time period... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Best to uninstall then to install not as a service. The default is service, now. The accounts will be made for either Service or Not, because it saves some information in there.
When you install again, do not check "Protected application execution". Then you can hand start and stop it. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)
