My comp went down and would not restart.
So, To make a long story a bit shorter, I finally found that by disabling Boinc in Services and removing it from my start menu the comp was stable.
I was running 5.10.45 so I upgraded to 6.2.19 and it immediately crashed again.
This took place a few hours after attaching to N-Queens, However, I find it hard to believe that that is the problem.
Ideas would be very much appreciated as my main Shrubber is now down. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

It's windows. Completely uninstall boinc, if you're familiar with registry editing, remove all entries pertaining to boinc. reboot again, and install fresh.
Or you could upgrade to linux! _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I apparently spoke too soon.
about 2 min after I posted this the comp crashed again. I am typing this from safe mode.
I am confident that this has to do with the services and startup menu as when I disable both of them I am stable. and if I enable either of them I crash. Boinc will make it crash Instantly, except in safe mode. WTF.....
I guess it is time for a fresh install of XP.
Regarding Linux....
this is my main rig and as such it is a gaming rig. I have about 5 or 7 boards with cpu, memory, etc that I will (someday) set up as a dedicated farm and at that time I will look forward to your assistance with Linux set ups. _________________ a.k.a. no problem. My main rig dual boots XP and linux. XP for games, and linux to shrub whenever I'm not gaming. Good luck with the re-install! google tweakhound, and check out the guides. trim your install down to max out your hardware for games! _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I'm Back.............
My $260.00 DFI board finally gave up the ghost. that makes all 5 Dfi 790 FX boards are a failure......
I replaced it with a MSI K9A2 Platinum.
I will try to return the boards to DFI but I am probably out about a Grand _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

MSI boards do not have a stellar reputation either. Asus and gigabyte are good. foxconn are alright if you want to stay cheap. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I used to be a big ASUS fan, but their customer service has become non-existent and all their manuals are written in Engrish .
After the reviews on New Egg I decided to try a different company for a while.
