Ew! You guys do eat a lot of sweet and sticky stuff over there. Confused

I had heard that maple syrup goes on just about everthing over there and I've had American style hot dog buns and burger buns that taste like they have a heck of a lot of sugar in them.

My blood sugar just skyrocketed at the thought of it!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE bacon, but I don't think I'd go for it in lollipop form.

Yes, sadly sugar is quite prominent here. I've rather had enough of it myself, experimenting with diets and all that. Try to avoid carbs over here though. yeesh!

Maple syrup (real maple syrup is not very prominent over here and doesn't go on everything. Sadly, most people who don't live in new england never encounter real maple syrup and the fake stuff you buy in the store is horrible for ya.

And yes, as I mentioned carbs above, buns are LOADED with them.

On the other hand, if you were eating a hot dog, your health must not be high on your list of priorities. Laughing

WRONG!!!!! Pancakes, waffles and some baked beans have some maple syrup. Beyond that there isn't much that I can think of.

That's the problem. "American Style". Not necessarily American.

If you want to do stuff like that we can whip out our copies of Crocodile Dundee and presume you all hang out in bars all day, drink Fosters and wrestle crocs. Then we can start on your version of food....

You should try a couple of rashers of this for breakfast (or in a bacon butty); this is bacon at it's absolute peak. I treat myself occasionally, but it's friggin' expensive.

One does try. Confused We don't have them very often. I'm not a fan myself but the kids have always liked them, and I prefer to grill the frankfurts rather than boil them. At least that horrible red artificial skin is crispy instead of all soggy and falling off. Gotta have lots of cooked onion and grated cheese with either sweet chili or hot chili sauce. Only what I've heard from rellies who've been over there to visit the rellies in WA and Nevada. Plus my mother's neighbours went over there way, way back when my mother was a kid and that's what they said. Way too defensive, John. It was not a personal insult, just what I've heard from family who have been over there to visit our relatives.

Anyway, we're taught to wrestle crocs while we're still in nappies, and we have a special kangaroo lane on all our major roads. Drop bears can be a problem but we have special classes at school to learn how to deal with those. A good swift kick in the nuts can help sometimes, although it is best to avoid them completely. Can't forget the vegemite! Toast simply isn't toast without vegemite.

Al Dente - That bacon looks pretty darn good. Much better than the budget generic brand stuff I get at the supermarket. Laughing

Skin falls off? You are cooking them too long! The Hot dogs around here only need to be boiled for a couple of minutes at most (they are precooked).

Then it must be an "Out West" type of thing. This country is 3000 miles wide. There is a wide variety of tastes across it. As for old days, I never herad anything like that described to me and I knew quite a number of old folks that would tell you stories too.

And those of us from NYC are able to strip a car in 60 seconds by our fourth birthday. The muggings are perfected by 9 and body hiding is a no brainer by 14.

Well there are a few observations that are missing here :

Bacon should ALLWAYS be cooked in the nude , this stops the cook from over-cooking it , prevents that dreadfulllll "Crispy" and "Crunchy" condition , best used for reinforcing concrete walls . Every time I have been to America , the breakfst chef did not understand this . I pointed out that "Would he cook a fine piece of beef untill it was crispy ? " The worst piece of steak is ALLWAYS overcooked to disguise the quality . Shame , some of the best beef in the world comes from the USofA (esp Utah) .
Fried or Grilled is OK , just (for Americans esp) show the slice to a grill or pan (in the NUDE - spattering means you are doing it wrong on too high a temp - ) for enough time to estabish that no Grunngy , white stuff (water additives) come out of it . If it does , throw them away and buy "PROPPER" bacon .
Leave the Rind and fat on whilst cooking (maybe snip the rind every inch or so to stop curling) , don't eat that part if you are tastefully challenged , cut it off affter cooking .

Now on to Marmite - NOT Vegimite Michelle ! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Best on buttered toast . Good addition (small amount) to stews (inc Currys) when cooking . The world needs to try this excellant savory spread . (Well to be fair , Australia , India , many parts of Africa , Canada , Japan and a little bit of France allready know Rolling Eyes ) . In its f(l)avour , is the fact that it is made mainly from the yeast dregs left over from making BEER ! Bloody mavelious ! I urge every one to try it at least once , as the TV adds go , you either love it or hate it . Been around for well over 100 years .
