Hello from CERN!
I'm squatting on the floor in the ATLAS control room writing this, while we wait to see if the first beam will get all the way around the LHC ring. ATLAS is the last detector on the path, the only one that hasn't seen beam yet, so everyone's very excited.

There was a problem with a turbine on the cryo system of one of the superconducting magnets of the LHC this morning at 7am, when the BBC crew I'm with started broadcasting. But after lots of talk of Òplan B', and Òif we're lucky it might work' not exactly what you expect to hear on a 6bn$ experiment! seems like they will go ahead with a first attempt this morningÉ
