Technically the actual prostitution happened in Washington DC. Spitzer arranged for her to travel down there for it.
Opinion time! Do you thing this was worth $5500?

Actually, I think the US imported it
Prior to moving to this area about a month ago (work basically), I lived in Albuquerque, NM. What some of the there local Congress person's wwere saying, as Washington was dragging it's heels on the whole illegal immigration issue, is a 2 way border crossing issue.
On the one hand, many of the illegals would bring drugs accross the border with them; but going the other way were certain gun runners, who would take arms back accross the border to find their way to the drug lords.... |

Not so sure that the issue is because of immigration, I live in Detroit and we have lots of Guns and Drugs and not alot of Mexicans. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Was more how the drugs got into the country from the growers in South America; and how the drug lords down there are getting their munitions. Down around the border, those in the area noticed a 2 way trafficing of drugs on the one hand, and gun runners taking arms the other way...
Ports or other entry way into the country would also present means by which drugs not grown locally can enter the country.... Just a taste of it

Quote: | EL PASO, Texas - Security is being heightened along the southern U.S. border because of a threat that warring Mexican cartels may send hit men into the United States, authorities said Monday.
..."We received credible information that drug cartels in Mexico have given permission to hit targets on the U.S. side of the border," El Paso police spokesman Officer Chris Mears said
...Law enforcement officials this year in New Mexico and Texas said they had received a purported cartel hit list identifying 15 to 20 potential targets in those states. Mears said the latest threat contained no specific targets.
The deadly wave of shootings and a rise in kidnappings for ransom in Mexico has prompted some of its citizens, including police officers and a prosecutor, to seek asylum in the U.S.
While the ongoing cartel war has been largely contained in Mexico, more than two dozen gunshot victims have been taken for medical treatment in El Paso, prompting security lockdowns at the county hospital... |

Quote: | HARLINGEN, Texas (Reuters) - U.S. Border Patrol agent Reynaldo Zuniga was arrested last month lugging a bag of cocaine up from the Rio Grande, one of a growing number of law enforcement officers accused of taking bribes from drug gangs.
Former colleagues say Zuniga used to wait until agents in the south Texas town of Harlingen were distracted with paperwork, then slip down to the river and help smuggle in drugs from Mexico.
The increasing use of bribes by Mexican drug cartels to corrupt U.S. agents comes as Washington is sending $400 million to help Mexico's army-led war on the trafficking gangs, whose brutal murders have surged to unprecedented levels. |

Quote: | (CNN) -- The alleged leader of a firearms trafficking network believed to be smuggling guns into Mexico -- where police say they are used against law enforcement officers by members of Mexican drug cartels -- was arrested Thursday in Arizona, authorities said.
Victor Varela was arrested by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as part of the agency's ongoing Project Gunrunner, according to an ATF release. He was in the custody of the Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff.
"Law enforcement officers disrupted a group of gun traffickers and recovered several weapons, including .50-caliber semiautomatic rifles and several handguns, allegedly intended to supply drug traffic organization members of the Juarez Cartel in Palomas, Mexico," the statement said.
In state charges, prosecutors allege Varela and his co-defendants bought a number of guns in Arizona intending to supply the Mexican cartel members. The group allegedly transported the illegally purchased guns to New Mexico, and then into Mexico. |

Quote: | A weapon seized after a drug-war massacre at a Mexican border town last week was purchased in Phoenix, in another sign that southbound gunrunning and the firepower of drug cartels have accelerated in the last few months.
It's a shared problem. Often guns smuggled south are used to smuggle drugs and people north.
The resulting violence, and fear that it will spill more onto U.S. soil, has led the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to make curbing gunrunning in the southwest a top priority. And the issue has led to unparalleled international cooperation.
"There is a war going on on the border between two cartels. What do they need to fight that war? Guns. Where do they get them? From here," said William Newell, special agent in charge of the Phoenix division of ATF.
Last week, 22 people died near the Sonora mining town of Cananea. Drug smugglers executed four police, fled into the mountains and shot it out with Mexican federal authorities in an ensuing day-long battle. |
