Hi all,
Been a bit quiet here of late...
project debugging has taken up much time.
Thanks to all knights who are participating in my little ol' project during its Alpha phase.
Ni!

Hi Fang
I'm in and awaiting my first WU
After I check it out, I have a few more PCs I can share some time with, but for now, only on my laptop, OK?

Ni! All,
The Alpha phase is now going well. I've finally managed to iron out the segfaults and am now starting to run the WU recycling script in anger (this takes a successfully completed WU and uses it as input to run for another 10,000,000,000 simulator cycles). Once I've verified that the simulator is capable of running several billions of billions of cycles (what I shall call the Beta stage) then I shall start the full blown WU generator (which I estimate will create somewhere in the region of 1,000,000 Wu's per run - or as many as disk space on my server will allow) and recycler. My first goal is to see what 'creatures' have evolved after 10 such recycles and then pick the results that are of interest to run for another 100 recycles (by which time I will have lost count of the number of cycles the simulator will have completed (but it's somewhere in the region of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 cycles).
A big "thank you" to all my fellow knights (and those from other teams - who now number some 500 users across 1,100 hosts) for hanging in there whilst I have been struggling to get the code into this now stable state.
p.s. well done us, we're top team today so far according to free-dc stats.
Ni!

G-$,
I will be moving the farm to your project once I get 100K shrubs on Milkyway. Kiniggits must be at the top, especially if it is one our own projects.
Enqirein...Enguireng...Inquireing..curious minds want to know: How is credit credited to an account? IE how do you determine what should be a credit claimed, and how do you give credit, and what causes the variance of said credit granted sometimes higher, sometimes lower.
always wanted to know.

Still no WU's then ?
There will be many to come in a couple of days time when I release the Beta on the world.

Well, there are many ways to grant credit (and there are those our there who tweak their machine fpu benchmarks in order to get higher credit grants than they should - I've seen some evidence of this early in the project)....
The mechanism I'm currently using is to look for 3 valid results for a WU and then grant the middle claimed credit of the three to all those who've returned the result. Wars have been fought and civilisations died in arguments over credits (in other projects I must stress), but this mechanism seems to be acceptable to most fair minded schrubbers regardless of creed. Doing this also allows me to confirm that the results are in the main consistent.

G-$
Thanks,
I was actually wondering how you determine the credit claimed? How do you get the three credits initially? It seems that some projects give fixed credit regardless of CPU time, ex COSMO. It seems that you could give 50 per unit to get a huge influx of Credit ho's to crunch to kick off a project. Is it per CPU formula that is based on FPU and how do you calculate differences between them? How does a Celeron do versus a Q6600 in seconds crunched?
Thanks again for the info.

The "Official" BOINC credit system is 10 cobbliewhatsits per hour per 1,000 MFlops, but various projects seem to range from ~60% to vastly more than this. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

OK I'm crunching for this project, but can't figure out how to join the KWSN team! It says visit team page and click the "join this team" button, but I see no such button... |
