We've lost a great one.
Quote: | Arthur C. Clarke, who peered into the heavens with a homemade telescope as a boy and grew up to become a visionary titan of science-fiction writing and collaborated with director Stanley Kubrick on the landmark film "2001: A Space Odyssey," has died. He was 90. |

We've (Sci Fans) taken a hit in the last few years - Heinlein(1988), Asimov(1992), and now Clark. These were the people that got me interested in Sci Fi as a youth. _________________

To us wrinklies, yes.
I was dragged, kicking and screaming, through adolescence by those guys.
I still have a copy of ACC's (I think first) volume of short stories, Tales from the White Hart (1957) - does anyone else remember such classics as The Defenestration of Ermintrude Inch?
Remember that he was the first to propose (or at least popularise) the idea of geosynchronous communications satellites, and was the first to suggest a Space Elevator (and I very much hope to live long enough to see that become a reality).
He also literarily (and literally) explored the sea, in novels such as The Deep Range.
He and Heinlein have been among the major influences on my views on life, and still are.
I don't mourn his passing (it comes to us all), but I can't praise him enough. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.
