|
|
Well, the Missus and I have finally done it.
The house is sold, we move out March 28/08.
We are going to stick around the Greater Toronto Area for 4 to 6 weeks afterwards to tidy up our immediate affairs.
Then, we start our big adventure.
We are driving our truck and 5th Wheel trailer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Juangriego, Nueva Esparta, Venezuela.
I have set up a web site so that people can follow our travels, you can find it at >- Venezuelan-Journey <-, btw, it is still very much a 'work-in-progress' so please be patient.
I am still going to be coming by for visits to this Den of Loonacy, you can't get rid of me that easy.
The 'farm' will continue to run until the systems are retired or re-formatted by their new owners.
Any comments, silly or otherwise ???

Unfortunately you are not passing near where I live. Good luck on the roads in Central America. Also maybe you can borg President Chavez's computers for KWSN.

Wow. Here in Australia we can only drive to Australia (although it IS a long way!).
The thought of driving to Venezuela is awsome!
I will follow your travels via the web page.

I had a friend of mine's daughter and her husband just complete a similar trip (not as far however).
Their kept a running blog of the trip. It makes for fun reading:

This was their home for a year or two:

Great Sir CC , any chance of pics/specs of your Rig ('pecially the Tractor/Truck) ?
Did a (somewhat) similar thing 40 ish years ago (In Europe and beyond ) with a motorcycle and sidecar home built special . To this day , I have still done more miles on a bike than in a car (and my from new Landy has over 250,000 miles on the clock - and that's the replacement speedo !) Alas , no pics survive of that trip Looking forward to yours !
You need good tyres and spares the further south you get ! (To say nothing of the cold chisel and half a brick to do any repairs )

That takes alot of guts (or PGGB's) to do something like that Sir CCotWR! Is this something you've planned for a while, job transfer or something? I applaud you. Hope your journey is safe and full of adventure. I'm looking forward to the updates. _________________

You gotta be friggin' nuts!
I knew you were an old geezer, but I still thought you had all the marbles in place.
Unless you're starting up some kind of new drug operation, I can't see why the hell anyone would want to go to Venezuela.
Sure, it may be a nice vacation spot, but live there? Hell no!
Still, I do wish you all the best.
As long as you remembered to pack a mosquito-net and an Uzi you'll probably be ok. |

Take 3 guns.
One to give up to to whoever.
One to keep secret.
One to keep very secret.
The road is always more dangerous than we planned for.
And keep a knife in your boot.
You have people to protect.
Also, find out what is expensive there but cheap where you're going so that you will have something to trade.
Good whisky is always welcome.
Sorry to sound paranoid, be safe or be sorry is my watchword.
Enjoy.
ps take an extra knife. |

I didn't read it as he was going to live there, just taking an extended vacation ?
Holy crap, look at the size of that thing ! (I hear that a lot from girlfriends ) .
I think you should allow your wife to ride in the truck cab or in the trailer, rather than be perched on the steps hanging on for dear life, but hey, that's your call. I realize you do things differently in Canada .
It's gonna cost you some pretty good bucks for diesel fuel I'd imagine, although (I think) it's cheap as hell in Venezuela. Gawd knows they've got a lot of oil. If that were me, I'd convert the truck to run on methane and shove a hose up my ass and munch bean burritos the whole trip . That truck would be popping wheelies up the hills .
Thank gawd for Canadian license plates so you won't get mistaken for an American cuz they hate us down there .
I've thought about doing the same thing (south america trip) as you, but I'd fly my private plane instead of a motorhome. It'd be harder to for the bastards to shoot or knife me that way . I'd consider painting the trailer with camoflauge paint and mounting a .50 caliber turret on the top . They're doing some nice things fashion-wise with kevlar vests nowadays .
I tip my hat to thee, you've got way more guts than I do .

If there is one this that works out good (for me!), I will finally have a chance to catch him in the total posts standings with out having to resort to cheap little posts just to run up the count.
Current Standings:
1 Michelle 8984
2 KWSN Sir CADCAM 7180
3 mohrorless 6614
Now I can concentrate on posting things with quality and intelligence like BOOBIES!!!!! _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

John, don't you ever think of anything else?
Sir CC and Mrs. CC - Good on ya for taking a chance and going on a great adventure! Use common sense, be aware, be cautious, take care on the roads...and take lots of photos!
