I'm getting beat like a red-headed step-child. And I there is not much I can do (short of upgrading my miserable little 27 core mini-farm), I am on the edge of what I can actually do:

Note: MC-Home is Windows XP x64, all others are Linux.

I can't seem to remember, can you refresh my memory - who was it that started this? Laughing

My version of your table:

That's everything except my venerable XP1800+, which is rapidly approaching 2 years of solid BOINCing. I've decided to let it go out in a blaze (well, more of a slight smoulder) of glory, by letting it go through 100,000 and take Rosetta through the same landmark. Then it's the scrap-heap and wheel on the first dual-quad-core.

One thing that is immediately obvious is:
1) 16 Windoze licenses. Even at $120 / copy (OEM) that is $1920 to Bill.
2) My Linux machines out-perform your Windoze machines by almost 50%.
Why don't you give Linux a try? 50% more- for free (well- minus some hassles and the learning curve thing).

I was planning to have a serious play with Linux, probably Ubuntu, when the old 1800+ is retired - it should make a reasonable "learning curve abrogation" shrubber.

I'll probably be looking for advice then, so prepare yourself for an onslaught of daft questions.

I would avoid Ubuntu, it defaults to running in run level 5 (multi-user, graphics) which is a waste of cpu power and nearly impossible to change the way it is set up. I've had much better luck with Fedora, it is easily setup to start in run level 3 (multi-user, no graphics) which uses all of it's cpu cycles for crunching. The graphics are still there, if you want to log in and use them (which I do rarely). The "speed-tuned" Fedora gains about 40% over Ubuntu. If you decide to give it a try, you've got my email, feel free to shoot me any questions you have. (PS- why not use the 1800+ to "play" with).

Boinc Stats:
Sir B 26,388 Very Happy
Sir M 25,719 Smile
Sir A 24,333 Sad

It's looking like I ought to get used to 11th place, I'm not going anyplace (but backwards) fast. Confused

don't worry too much... I'll get bored with cosmo and its overcredit soon enough and revert to my normal RAC, that's your oportunity...

not only that, I'm off skiing soon so you'll definately get tenth then.

I'm just having some fun.... Wink Wink

Our team Rac has reached a new level in the last couple of days and we are now 5th based on Rac in cosmo. It has also helped our #'s in combined where we are seriously threatened with being passed.

Having this race continue would be a good thing for KWSN #ni-1

I know the feeling, I had just changed back to 50% Einstein when you made your "push". I quick changed back to Cosmo to try and keep up. I also have a project I've been wanting to play with that will cost me credits until I get it working-
I want to setup a Cluster out of my AMD machines and see if I can get them to run as a single 14 core machine (that should be an interesting RAC).

I must admit that I'm getting a bit bored with this chest-thumping.

It looks as if the three of us are pretty well evenly matched - how's about calling it an honourable draw on the shrubbing power front? (I'll leave Brian & Mike to sort out 10th between themselves.)

Yes, I'm afraid this is a "Hail and Farewell, (cough, cough) I'll be leaving you now, it was great while it lasted" post.

I'm back off into the untracked wilds of the virgin, untamed BOINC forests, all ready and waiting to be turned into nice neat shrubberies, with picket fences galore and nice little paths.

BOINC-dom beware, there's a Dentery on the loose.
