Another thought on this problem - I wonder if the elusive Dr. Vornoff would be prepared to help out here? He's got a helluva lot of shrubbing power at his disposal; he's certainly in a position to neutralise Dr. Dan.

"The Battle of the Doctors."

Just a thought.

But he seem to show up at his disposal, not ours. It certainly would be nice, my first estimate of credit equivalence was in error. TSP is 40% less than Cosmo. I would hate this whole thing to be for naught....

Ok- I see they have a few WU's, I signed up 50% on three of my slower machines. I'll see what happens. (Can't let Al get back ahead of me in less than 24 hours).

Are we going on the offense for the traveling salesmen project? What is that project about? Is it a boinc project? how does it work?

It it isn't too much for my poor little shrubbers, I may join the fight!

Yes, we are trying to make #1 for xmas

Apparently it is using mathematical formulas to find the shortest distance between multiple points.
I am sure it has other scientific uses as well

Yes

Attach to project and Shrub.....

units run from 1 hour on a amd 64 to 1.5 on athlon 2000+ 16 credits per unit no matter how long it takes you.

Please do join, easy to get into the top 10 on the team.

#ni-1

Edit: we doubled Seti Usa today. all we need is about 50k more than them. I think we can do it as we had 36k this week and that was before we really all started.

Yes. See below. Yes. Same as all the other BOINC projects. No way. Yes please.

It's a single-person attempt to find good algorithms to solve the problem of visiting a number of points by the most efficient route. Apart from the obvious use for transport fleet routing, there are also applications in areas like printed-circuit board and integrated circuit track routings and many more.
At the moment Marcus Weltin (for that is his name) is using a brute force method to find the optimum route between the 48 US state capital cities. Once this is known, he'll be trying various other methods (knowing the correct solutuion) in an attempt to find the most efficient.

Scoring is reasonable, I'm getting...
Code:
pts/hour     /core /shrubber
XP1800+       8.89    8.89
3800x2       14.33   28.66
4600x2       17.35   34.70
5600x2       19.24   38.48
E6300        13.12   26.24
Q6600        17.16   68.63
Ph 9500      18.26   73.06

Times range from a little under 2 hours on the XP1800+ to 50 minutes on the Phenom, with fixed credit of 16/shrub. Project home.

So now you know.

BTW, We've gone past Rechenkraft in Poem (now 3rd), so you can reign in that effort now and transfer it to TSP. Wink

Project seems to be very AMD/Linux friendly.
(It looks like AMD/Linux is just about twice as fast as an AMD/Windoze machine):

CPU..................Secs.Cr..Hrs...Cr/Hr/core
AMD X2 6000+ 1500 16 0.42 38.40
AMD X2 5600+ 1750 16 0.49 32.91
AMD X2 4200+ 2100 16 0.58 27.43
AMD X2 3800+ 2200 16 0.61 26.18
Intel P4........... 6600 16 1.83 8.73

I'm in! Let's have at them!

My PC downloaded 10 WUs and it appears (according to the Boinc Manager) that it will take about a.5 hours per WU.

Let the fun begin!

I hope the stats are a blip but just maybe those darned Seti.USA types have twigged our little plan. If this is so then we need to send our envoys, especially The Master of Noxious Odours, to subdue them.

Dr. Dan T. Morris needs poaching so maybe we should make him an offer he can't refuse and that's Father Guido's speciality. Twisted Evil

We need somebody to distract him. He is Shrubbing in WCG at about 25%. Perhaps some Knight could challenge him in that project and by the time he realizes he has been had it will be too late.

Great, we start to make some head-way today, and the site goes down. I have 3 waiting to report, and 3 stuck uploading.
{edit: I take that back, they are uploading very slowly, and finally did report.}

Seti.USA might have caught on, they tend to notice these things and try to stay at the top.
