According to the Pirates@Home website it seems they have about 30K WU's to crunch. So go and get them before they go the way of the dingo and take your shirt.

Now you see 'em, now you don't.

BTW, have you seen the Mechanical Turk - I've just added a whole 1 point to my Pirates score.

How much do you have to do to add a point?

You have to type in a couple of those distorted text thingies they use to check whether you're human or not - 8 of those and you've got one whole Pirates point.

I think they're using it to fill in some of the gaps in OCR-read documents when they're digitising old books, so there's some usefulness to the excersise.

How does one go about distorting what I type?

Well, they've upped the credit to ¼ point per go; I've just added a dozen to my score in 10 minutes or so.

Then I noticed that there's some sad bugger from Finland with a bit of time on his hands who's added nearly 3000 points in 2 days. At 1/8 point per go, that's 24,000 in 48 hours or 500 an hour (with no sleep). He must have had himself, his wife, 3 kids and his dog all typing away madly! Rolling Eyes

I gave up at that point.

That's 31,368 Total WUs. The "Results ready to send" is a big fat zero.

On the Turk front, I spent ½ hour on it and moved up 2 places in the World standings (at ¼ point per go); but they've now knocked it down to 0.1 point/go, so that progress would now take a couple of hours (I NEED coffee quite frequently). Laughing
