Things are chugging away nicely in blighty and I am about to break 3M. 
I have currently 15 real (not including hyperthreading) CPU cores crunching away atm. I cant see myself adding to the fleet due to the cost electricity untill more energy efficient 45 or 32nM CPU's come out (at a reasonable price) then I may consider retiring my older stuff to free up wattage for a higher RAC.

3 Million???..............Prick
I just read about the UltraSPARC T2 (code named Niagara 2 ) by Sun MicroSystems. Eight 64 bit Cores running at 1.4 meg each, additionally each core can run 8 threads of execution, for a combined performance of 89.6 GHz with power consumption of less than 100 Watts all for under $1000.00.
By my calculations that is about 120,000 credits a day.
I'll take 3..............

120,000/day lol. Somehow I doubt that, by a lot. And "under $1,000?" Also doubtful, since they've stuffed so much junk onto the chip. Don't forget it's only going to work with 1 OS, and 1 hardware platform, since it's all very proprietary. Seeing as the biggest bottleneck on current multi-core processors is RAM, I find it interesting that they're using such relatively crappy memory as a spec for that thing.

Prices starting below? I didn't realize there was more than one, since the Sun site only mentions one. Should be interesting, but the other information I've read about it doesn't lead me to think it will be a crunching powerhouse. Doesn't impact me any, since "starting below" $1,000 for just the processor doesn't sound very cheap to me hehe. If you get 3 of those, be a pal and get me three Penryn v8 setups would ya?

Did you check out the link? They're claiming Ubuntu linux support Real Soon Now (as Jerry Pournelle used to say).

Yeah I read it. So make that 2 OS support, all the rest stays the same. There's no dropping one of those in your cheap MB sitting on the parts bench, that's for sure.

LOL.
I still like the idea of an uber-chip such as that, running Ubuntu, if for no other reason than to "see what she'll do".
And, once I got the initial bugs ironed out (which were my fault, and not the OS), this box (cheapie Asus mobo with my old San Diego CPU) has been close to flawless all the way around, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say about two out of the three Windoze boxes around here.
