Here's how confused things are in Intel-land at the moment, these are CURRENT retail prices...
Chip ....................... Core ...... Clock ........ FSB ... Cache ... Retail
Core 2 Duo E6550 ... Conroe ... 2.33 GHz ... 1333 ... 4M ... $178.99
Core 2 Duo E6420 ... Conroe ... 2.13 GHz ... 1066 ... 4M ... $186.00
Core 2 Duo E6400 ... Conroe ... 2.13 GHz ... 1066 ... 2M ... $205.00
Core 2 Duo E6750 ... Conroe ... 2.66 GHz ... 1333 ... 4M ... $219.99
Core 2 Duo E6600 ... Conroe ... 2.40 GHz ... 1066 ... 4M ... $221.00
Core 2 Quad Q6600 ... Kentsfield ... 2.40 GHz ... 1066 ... 8M ... $309.99
Core 2 Duo E6700 ... Conroe ... 2.66 GHz ... 1066 ... 4M ... $317.00
Core 2 Duo E6850 ... Conroe ... 3.00 GHz ... 1333 ... 4M ... $319.99
Core 2 Quad Q6700 ... Kentsfield ... 2.66 GHz ... 1066 ... 8M ... $579.99
The 6550, the replacement for the 6400 series, is cheaper than either the 6400 or 6420... the 6750 is cheaper, by $100!!!, than the 6700 it replaces and is only $14 more than the 6400! The newest peak dual core chip, the 6850, is only $2 more than the 6700.
Man, what a tangled mess. Intel needs to cut xx00 series chips prices by a huge margin to get them gone, and then bring the xx20 series in-line with the new pricing on the xx50 series. This is just ridiculous!
The Q6600 has taken a $170 nosedive since I checked last month, but the E6700 has dropped $1. WTF? Sheesh I hope they sort this out soon lol. _________________

The one I have been watching is the Intel Xeon X5355 Clovertown 2.66GHz.
It has dropped from $1230 to $819 in the last week. I'm holding out for < $500, then my quad (2 x X5150's) becomes a V8. _________________

I am with the Rabbit....
My Barton 2500 is still going strong and it is $1500.00 cheaper than a new "Vista Ready" system. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Ok, so in the last week prices haven't changed in anything approaching a logical pattern.
The E6550 has gone up $12 to 199.99.
The E6600 has gone up $8 to $229.00. (Real-world performance is slightly below the E6550)
The E6850 has gone down $10 to $309.99, now the same price as the Q6600.
The Q6700 has gone down $1 to $578.99.
The prices in order are now E6420, E6550, E6400, E6750, E6600, Q6600, E6850, E6700, Q6700. I have no idea WTH is going on hehe. _________________

I Think my commodore Vic 20 is worth more than this one just as a piece of history. |

Vista may be ready for me, but I will never be ready for it. _________________
