I don't have a massive amount of time to contribute but if some changes start happening and you need a bit of coding time the auto-sizing of images should be a pretty simplistic change.

It's a no brainer actually, it's on the phpBB site as a mod. Just have to apply it (which again isn't as easy as it should be, you have to edit files manually), and the same is true of the code box tag (it's just a code tag that's multiple lines and uses scroll bars to avoid breaking the forum layout if the lines are too long). Both are probably included in phpBB v3, since they are popular mods that have been around for years and years.

The last release of phpBB2 is from December 2006, almost 9 months old now. phpBB3 is still pre-release, on release candidate 5 at this time, which came out just 5 days ago.

There are a ton of mods for phpBB2 (36 pages worth) that can be found here: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php?i=browse&mode=group:phpbb&sub=2

There are also 16 pages worth of style modifications like rank images, buttons, avatars, smilies, etc:
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/db/index.php?i=browse&mode=group:phpbb&sub=2

These are pre packaged, in so far as phpBB2 allows you anyways. I have no idea what's involved in upgrading to v3, as I've never done it (all the forums I used with phpBB were v2, and v3 wasn't even pre-release by the time I switched to SMF and swore off phpBB).

Hadn't even thought to check the forum site. Something like that I figured it was simpler just to go in and tweak the code itself. I'm sure theres any number of Knights with better php skills than I, but that was an obviously simple one.

I think the forum itself is fine the way it is - easy to read and not too 'busy'. More smileys would be great and I don't mind donating all the ones I have on photobucket.
As for the forum being different colours, themes etc - I used to post over here and there were times when the Michael's Retreat forum was almost unreadable because there would be little flowers, cats, angels etc all over the place or the colours would be horrendous.

To me the whole point on themes/color schemes is to have a few options open to folks. The site default ought to be something relatively clean and simple, but a few options for others are always good. (The dark option here is a good second choice. I have a number of friends who have vision issues and the darker, high contrast schemes work well for them).
