I am running an Alpha project that looks like it is going to be an interesting project. They appear to be short 32 bit Linux machines however (I have a bunch of WU's pending there). It is a closed project (invitation), but if anyone with a Linux machine wants to sign up, PM me and I will send a copy of the sign-in code (they want to limit the project during alpha test).
Cosmos Project Link
PS- I started a Knights Who Say Ni! team there. If there is an "official" way to start a team for us that I don't know about, please let me know.

That's one I really want to crunch for, but only Windoze shrubbers in the Dentery at the mo, so I'll just have to wait for them to open it up. Sad

There is no true offical way to start a team. Just make sure you say something silly about us in the team description and either point it to the forum or www.kwsn.net

Team start up : I pointed them at the forum url. I don't know if there is anything you need to do to get the team accepted by the stat sites.
PS- I have ducked responsibility most of my life, and would like to continue that trend if at all possible.
PPS- 18 year old with 36 years experience, still don't have it down!
Note: I PM'ed the person with the other (yes, only one) person with a 32 bit Linux machine(s), and he has them shut down because of temp/heat issues in Germany. I can sympathize, I have thought about shutting down some of my crunchers for the summer here.

I can offer a 64-bit Linux machine.
It can still execute 32-bit code, so would that be ok?

I haven't tried installing Boinc on Linux yet, but how hard could it be?

1) No, another 64 bit machine won't help much at this point. The project would automatically send it the 64 bit app.

2) The Linux install really isn't to bad. Download the code from Boinc site, place it one level below where you what your Boinc files to reside (ie- I wanted mine to be at /MC/BOINC, so I moved the boinc_xxx.sh file to /MC/..). Do a CD to that level (CD /MC). Make sure the file is marked as "executable" (I moved the file from my master server using WebMin, which turns of the exec flag during the move). Execute boinc_xxx.sh. You are now ready to go. Run ./BOINC/run_manager to start the boinc manager.
Setting up as a service requires adding a control file to /etc/rc.d/init.d. If you what to do this, PM me and I'll send you a copy of the script I use.

I have just installed Ubuntu. I'll have a try with installing BOINC also... but it surely will take some time, because I'm a linux dummy (in fact, I am a dumy in everything)

Sir ohiomike,

my 32-bit Linux machine seems to be crunching Cosmology (thanks to your valuable help) in alpha test.

However, I have a question: the execution time is increasing, but the percentage is not, neither the remaining time decreases. I've read in other thread that it may be normal, may it not?

Thanks again.

Note to all : The progress indicator on Cosmo does not work yet (app is written in Fortran 90, running within a c (Boinc Client) wrapper). They are
working on trying to get the indicator working, but it is difficult to get Fortran and c shared memory areas to talk properly.
As it is the task executes fine and checkpoints, but
1) Does not drive the "progress" (%) indicator.
2) Does not inform the Boinc Manager that it has check-pointed.

May I ask a question? When I created my cosmology account I gave it the same name, email and password as in the other projects in whicch i have also accounts (note that they are all windoze based, but cosmology, which i'm running in a Linux machine). Nevertheless, it seems i have created a new acciount, because now there are two "belenus SPooN" names in boincstats, and so i don't get all my shrubs in only one account (which, in the end, is not so important). May it be because i made something wrong, or is it due to have used a different OS (i don't think so, anyway)?

Thanks a lot..... and sorry, I'm so young and inexpert (oh, the first should be a wish to corrupt in the gorge)

Assuming you used the same email address to sign up, I would think the difference is the country.
You are International under Cosmo, and Spain under the rest.
Change Cosmo to Spain, (got Cosmo/Your Account/other account info to change it), and I believe that tomorrow Boinc Stats will combine the two accounts.
PS- Being young is a horrible crime, but the punishment is growing old! Confused

Done it, and thank you very much again.

On the other hand, I think I'm receiving my punishment already. I wouldn't say 39 is such a young age, but I wish it were..... what's sure is that I am so inexpert with computers..., and I wish I weren't. Wink

The problem seems to be that I was crunching Cosmology alone in the Linux machine. Now I've joined rosetta so my accounts (CPID) may merge.

I have one semi-retired machine running Ubuntu on a 1GHz Athlon Thunderbird. It ain't much. My only problem is that I cannot get the Boinc Manager to connect with and stay connected with the local host. If I can get that straightened out, you can have its services.
