GRRRR..
main desktop machine at home (dasher) went belly up. Hard drive was stopping occasionally "CLIK" wait two seconds, then keep working...
*CLIK* wait two seconds..etc Backed up stuff, then tried new harddrive.
Doesn't work.
Return to Office max, get a replacement
Doesn't work. Neither do other drives I have around. Must be mobo.
Get a new mobo/CPU/ram deal from newegg AMD 64X2 3800...shrubbing soon.
Have to use the DVR computer (vixen) for the time being. Hope I don't scramble my wife TV shows. There WILL be trouble then....
If I have to rebuild I'll call it cupid... _________________ 0.0 Giggly hertzes Folding!

I'm going to assume it is a IDE drive, did you replace the cable? Yes those darn IDE cables can go bad even have had a SATA cable go bad.
Have you tried another IDE port? On my one motherboard the 1st IDE was hosed and could only have 1 device attached so I attached my dead cdrom to it and moved my primary hard drive to primary on the secondary IDE.
Just some weird things to try but having an excuse to get a new motherboard and possibly upgrade the shrubbing power is always good to. _________________ Smoke-em if you got-em I do.. |

Thanks, cigar man.
I had tried other cables, other IDE ports, no joy.
New mobo+CPU+RAM arrived yesterday, AMD64 X2, Biostar K8M800, 2GB RAM, $200 for the lot
no serious hitches, new hard drive works OK
Installed Linux Mint (a spin off of Ubuntu with all the multimedia codecs installed) without a hitch.
Old hard drive is corrupted and won't boot. Stops at the blue screen of "i'm corrputed and know better than to continue"...and makes funny clicking noises too.
I'll install XP pro next, and try to recover my system, before the old HDD loses it completely.
I'll also put the old CPU in the DVR, upgrading it from a 1.6 GHz Duron to a Athlon XP2400 (2 Ghz). _________________ 0.0 Giggly hertzes Folding!

Woo Hoo!
Was able to repair windows, leaving all my "Stuff" intact.
I'll still transfer to the new drive. I don't trust the old one. _________________ 0.0 Giggly hertzes Folding!
