Anyone having issues with Rosetta 5.51? I had it on 3 machines and it seems fine on 2, but the lone AMD rig is freaking out.

Any time BOINC is shut down and restarted, the first Rosetta WU errors with a computation error. The next WU that's loaded processes at something like 1/300th of the normal speed. I only let it run an hour, but it was at 1.2% done (on a machine that did them in under 2 hrs with 5.48!) and the "time to complete" was going up 1:1 (i.e. 10 seconds go by, time to complete would go up by 10 seconds). I reset the project, same thing.

Soooo... I yanked Rosetta off 2 of the 3 rigs running it. The AMD is on NanoHive again to see if they fixed their apps problems with AMD, and one core of my Core2 is on SIMAP because Wabbit told me I had to.

Anyone else noticing anything odd with 5.51?

And I'm hosting my own laughing smiley in protest of how crappy the default one is hehe.

My new shrubber has finished 7 work units under the new client and doesnt seem to be having any issues. Interestingly enough(and this could be a coincidence) all 13 units that it completed under the old client took between 10 and 11,000 seconds while the new client has been anywhere from 1700 to 11,000 seconds.

Well, my Core2 started doing the same thing as my AMD so it's not an AMD issue. What version of BOINC are you running? I'm on 5.8.15 and have just pulled the project off every machine until I can figure out what the deal is.

The only machine with 5.51 WUs still queued is on 5.4.11 and won't LET me abort the 5.51 WUs. Confused I may have to go smack that computer in person today or just disable downloads and reset the project to force it to let go.

FWIW, the Core2 went through 2-3 WUs before it started acting up, and the AMD did as well, then both started having the same problem within 2 hours of each-other.

Update:
Ok, think I got some of the mystery figured out.

From their forums, there are some "known" issues, or at least ones that people are talking about. One is that the progress bar only updates when a model finishes. I have no idea how long that takes, relative to how big the work unit is. I'm going to leave it on that one machine and see what it does I guess.

People are also getting validation errors though, and there is some talk that it may not be the app that's the problem but a batch of workunits. I think the problems revolve around the new RNA workunits. I guess they are sending out both types of work now, which would explain why some WUs work "as expected" and others don't (the new RNA units).

I had 2 workunits on my home Dell that seemed to crawl. They both had an hour or processing and were only 1% complete. I came back an hour later and one was finished and the other had an additional hour of processing and still at 1% Confused .

Sooooooooo, I suspended Rosetta for about 10 minutes, let it work on other stuff for a while, resumed Rosetta and walked away. I came back later and it had finished and went back to Rosetta on it's own.

Haven't thought about it since.

I'm not 100 percent sure what version of Boinc my new machine is running, but it ought to be the most recent. Its been alive less than a week now and I downloaded straight from the boinc site when I installed it.

Yeah, they definitely need to work on some things with the 5.51 app. My one machine is still on the project, and it seems to be doing ok, but the lack of progress really makes me twitchy (sitting at 1% until it's done basically). I don't know if the RNA workunits are the problem or the opposite, because when I checked today there was an RNA WU done waiting to be sent home that finished in 14 minutes.

Dunno. The person that uses the machine that does Rosetta for me is gone for a week, so it will have plenty of uninterrupted crunch time to see what it thinks of 5.51.

Apparently there were enough problems. They have now release 5.52:
