Okay, it's great news. Sir Ice posted it over at the SETI board so I read it there first.
I was following the talk about the # 5 position. I'm in the middle of puting together a new system with an AMD X2. But I'm willing to scratch it and go for something more capable of producing more if others are too. It also depends on how seriously we are on getting to a higher position. It'll take more than a dozen people with some high-end systems though. I would probly limit it to a dual-socket board for myself. I can wait till the end of march but by then I'll have to have something running. |

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I have between 14 & 18 new cores coming online within the next week.
I was going to throw them at PiSegment as we can move up that project's team ranking quite quickly and get good points on the way.
But... if there are a couple of worthwhile, point getting, BOINC projects available, I would consider that route.
Suggestions please (serious ones). _________________ KWSN Sir CADCAM of the Wooden Rabbit

You could always throw Seti & Einstein (good for credit means good for the team) and Rosetta (decent credit & it's cancer research - what more could you want?) on them. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Wow that's a lot of cores Sir CADCAM. I've been looking at some logical options this morning and came up with two. The first is a dual Xeon 51XX. Very nice w/4 cores but will take some time because of cooling and case considerations. The second is a Core 2 Quad, wich is the easiest and may be just as good (fast memory, 4 cores etc). The prices are about the same.
I'm only doing seti now but i can try another project. |

It would be Rosetta for me. I'm mean if it helps in cancer research it would definately be worth the electricity. |

Is that you A/C ? Great to see you again. Now that I'm here and have got you to #6 I suppose I could help you out to #5
I'm in a little bit of an overload with climate WUs that take forever to finish. 3 BBC, 7 CPDN, 19 SAP, and a couple of CPDN Beta to boot. Some of the dam things inch along by the day. But never mind, the credits will come. _________________

And unless they changed it, all of those climate work units give credit every day for work done via trickle updates. You don't have to finish the WUs to get credits. I'd know, I've got 32,000 CPDN credits and only actually finished 3 WUs ever. _________________

Only 3? You lazy git Yes I know Climate is different in that you don't have to finish a WU to get the credits. In fact, if you crunch 24/7 you get a credit approx every day. That's fair enough. _________________
