|

Hi folks,
I'm running on one of my boxes (AMD X2 4800+ on ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe) now Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. BOINC is running fine except for climateprediction.net as the WU's are all exiting with a client error after shutting down the box. It looks to me that Vista doesn't wait long enough for a clean shutdown of BOINC so that the climateprediction WU's are corrupted or damaged which results in a client error by the next OS startup.
I'll post a question regarding this on the climateprediction forums and try to investigate the correct WaitToKill time in Vista.
All other BOINC projects on my box are running fine, the projects tested are Rosetta, Spinhenge, SETI, Einstein and LHC. Predictor has no work atm so I can't test ist for the moment.
Cheers

Got an answer so far at the climateprediction forums wich sounds:
"... always recommended to stop/exit the BOINC client before shutdown."
Well, looks like an alibi answer to me, why did that work smooth in XP and is now a prob only with climateprediction WU's (yes I know they're bigger and do a deeper analysis)? Hey, another question is how to translate this and the needed action to the spouse who will need to shutdown the box if I fell to sleep immediately when the favourite TV show starts (which happens almost every evening)?
Oh and yes Vista is quite new and the BOINC client still needs probably some tuning to behave correctly with Vista.
Let's see if I have luck with the WaitToKill settings in Vista .....
Cheers

surely, that's where the wu corruption started ... I'm still investigating, the WaitToKillService time is similar to XP (the other box is running 5.8.8 on XP and no corruption of the climateprediction wu's is seen. I've set the WaitToKillApp on XP at 200 milliseconds but nothing bad happens, BOINC is closing down, climateprediction wu's are well so far) but the WaitToKillApp entry was missing initially.
Cheers
