I know. It's all because they bragged a while ago that they were having NO difficulties and how long their server had been up with NO problems. The computer gods are cruel.

Tell me about it. Has anybody else noticed that SETI and Einstein have an uncanny ability to go down at the same time. I hate it when two projects fail at one. It puts me into tertiary mode, doing projects I may not be all that interested in. I hate on again off again roller coasters even more though, so I'll probably back-off of Einstein until it's been up and running for a week or two straight without incident.

Doing that will just guarantee it blows up again hehe. Einstein is finally back up, all 48 WU's went home, AND all the new ones it downloaded are big (2+ hours each, as opposed to the 20-30 minute ones from before). Yay!

Do that and you may never run it again! Laughing

I noticed today that it actually went down a couple of times for a just few minutes and then was back up again. So my guess is that it is still not 100%.

Yeah, I know. I finally reported the 29 results that have been hanging around on one machine for what seems like an eternity.

Btw, I don't withhold crunching to punish a flakey project, it's an act of mercy. I figure a project that is just getting back on its feet can do without one more user bombarding the servers with requests and reports.

I wasn't implying that you did that. I was kidding that with the way Einstein has been going for the last month, you may never shrub that project again if you are going to wait for 2 stable weeks to resume! #ni-1

Found an interesting site that lists the projects in order of dependability over the long term average.

Nice. I also shows that Einstein is one of the lowest on the scale of up time %.

Excellent site! So what's up with LHC? I thought that looked interesting, but the site sounds as though there isn't any work available:

Server Status

Up, out of work
no work in progress
43 concurrent connections

I'm doing the Rosetta gig right now as it seems more stable.

Einstein is looking good with the new S5RI series. The last of the S5R1 series were all small units and pounded the hell out of the servers. It was too much for them to handle, plus all the new computers that came online after Christmas made it worse.

S5RI is still S5R1 with new parameters to search deeper in a few sections. The units take about 4x as long, but so is the crediting.

If you temporarily suspended Einstein and was waiting for it to be stable, I think you are safe to come back online.

Just because it's accepting finished results doesn't mean it's sending any out. LHC should be finishing a migration to QMC (some college) shortly and you'll be seeing more stable work availability.

Currently work is very sporadic.

Now PrimeGrid is down for the weekend. This is getting ridiculous. I'm tempted to download a Climate Prediction model for back-up. At least I only need work from them once every many, many, many months. Smile

Read today's news. Kernel Panic crash, unrelated to previous issues.

Some days you just need a good Panic attack.

Yes, I already saw that. I wonder what caused the kernel panic? I wonder what OS they are running.

And it makes me wonder why they aren't trapping and auto restarting. Oh well, that's why none of my boxes run only one project except the projects that are really reliable.
