Hey gang just wanted to let you know I will probably be missing for the next few days to a week from the forum.
My father in law passed away yesterday and now all the fun starts. He had been sick for the last year and a half, stomach cancer that spread to his liver and lymph nodes.
We knew it was coming and were grateful to get through the holidays. The tough part is comforting my almost 7 year old daughter. She was likethis with him and it has hit her like a ton of bricks.
I'll try to check in when I can. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

John, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. Words can't fix or change anything, but at least there may be some consolation in knowing that your father-in-law is at peace now and no longer suffering from this terrible disease. Thinking of you and your family.

Mohrorless,
A loss like that is always hard, and doubly so for the young. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all.
Best regards,
Andy |

Do what you need to do, we'll still be here (laying an ambush no doubt) when you get back.

Thanks gang!
Just a quick peek while we pass time before heading back to the funeral home again today. So far everything is going ok, hope it lasts.
I can't believe just HOW MANY people have come around so far. Just yesterday there had to be close to 150. There will probably be at least another 100 or more today. I guess he really did know everyone. And all the flowers that have come. I was talking with both of my brothers-in-law about opening a flower shop with them. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I remember my father-in-laws wake. Before it started, my wife and her family and I were resting in the front row, in that state of shock, stunned silence mood one gets during a close funeral. My 2 year old daughter got up on her own and stood by the casket and preached to us for a few minutes, about dogs and other two-year-old stuff, and how we should not be so sad. We just listened, still stunned, but it is one of my clearest and dearest memories from that week. _________________ 0.0 Giggly hertzes Folding!

Hey Gang I'm back.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers! It really means a lot!
The funeral was today. It was chilly, but for January (here in the northern hemisphere) it was unseasonably warm. It was raining on and off as well. It was tough, everyone was sad, but my father-in-law's cousin/adopted sister (they were very close) gave the euology and had the emotions going from sad to laughing at the pranks he used to pull (he was good for them). After the funeral was the cemetary and it was raining pretty good then.
Then we went to lunch. THe mood was picking up by then and every one was trading stories about my father-in-law and having a better time.
Somehow after that about 20 people ended up at my house (probably because we live 3 blocks from the restaurant where we had lunch). Amazingly I had enough beer and other booz on hand (Irish funeral, he was from Ireland).
I just finished returning the last of the Irish crew to the hotel they are staying at and decided to check in. It's been a long few days and we are all ready to drop.
I do want to tell you about the service at the funeral home last night, you will enjoy it (at our expense). THe priest that came from the parish (thankfully not the one that performed the funeral today), came and happened to be from Ireland. He rambled on for nearly 45 minuted. He opened and closed the Bible several times during the service with out reading from it and was saying some stuff that makes no sense. When it was finally over and he came up the the family to offer his condolances, we got a good wiff of the Jamesons that he must have been sampling earlier. Contact High! Later he became the brunt of some necessary jokes (more for emotional steam release) and a friend of mine was nailing an impression of him too. He will be thought of for quite a while.
Sir jbyram - my condolances to you and your wife's family. Out of the mouths of babes.... _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Sir John,
please accept my condolences about your father in law....
The priest that came from the parish, sounds like a character from Father Ted...... http://www.bbcamerica.com/genre/comedy_games/father_ted/father_ted.jsp

So it appears that my condolances are a little late..... _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!
