We're due to overtake the AMDAbusers for 5th place in a few days, and beyond them a ways is Team Crunchy .
They seem like nice enough guys, but the honor of our team is at stake . God knows we don't have much of it, so we must preserve what little we have .
For those of you with DSL/Cable, consider running some MJ-12 http://www.majestic12.co.uk/ . It takes very little CPU and it's bandwidth use can be throttled to whatever your comfortable with .
In this thread, they admit to having sheep, so there's a prise awaiting us at the end of this quest......... a good old-fashioned sheepy orgy !

I do not think that your little team is up to the task at hand.......It is always better to try and sneak up on one's enemy.....I had stopped this project but since you seem to be so confident that we are such an easy target I guess that time shall tell the story.... |

We're Knights, we have honor, we don't sneak up on our enemies . Indeed, we walk right up to them, look straight into their beady eyes and slap them silly with a herring .
Add to that we're MORONS so we let them know real early to they can run away !
Pwrguru, glad we could drag your ancient butt out of retirement .
Edit: Holy craparooni on a shingle, this guy is the second highest MJ-12 producer in the world ! Oooooh, that's not good at all ! Why doesn't someone TELL me these things before I pick these fights ? _________________

No, no, no ! This is what this team needs, a good old fashioned fight ! Unfortunately it's a "Majestic" fight, an admittedly awkward venue, but hey, you gotta take what they give ya . |

Sir Farty......
can you set the MJ-12 client to only run within certain timeframes ie 12:30 am to 3:30pm?.
If you can I'm in. I have a limit cap for peak hours but off peak, I'm 8mb unlimited !!!!

Yup, under Tools,Options,Profiles there's an extensive array of choices to control the application... by time, bandwith etc etc.
8mbs, ooooh, that's fast . Me only gots .45/5mbs . You probably could get over 1.5 million shrubberies per day with that baby running it during the above timeframes . |

Well I just decided to give it a try. I have a 5(?) Mbit connection and technically it has montly transfer limits but I've blown way past those before and they haven't said anything. I won't leave it wide open but I'll throw in some shrubs where I can
Edit: And so far, I have already blown past 3 other team mates and if I keep it up, I will have overtaken wabbit by the end of the day. Better pick it up ladies!

Oooooh, intra-team tauntage, most excellent . Eight Kannigits as of this writing contributing so far: http://www.majestic12.co.uk/projects/dsearch/teaminfo.php?id=24
You can control the overall proggie, and its production, by the numbers of workers you assign within it. 75 or more workers going all day will get you somewhere around 1.6M shrubberies per day, more if you have faster upload speed than normal . I have .45/5mb and can get around 1.6M per day . I have DSL service and have never been hassled about CAP limits.

I'm back in the fray, but I dunno for how long.. I only have a 60 GB a month connection, or 3 Mbits.
[Edit] But then again i've only been using 3% of that total [/Edit] _________________ When in doubt, kick it until it works. |

Right....
downloaded the client ......
setup the account (KWSN Sir Brian)
it likes the password and logs in OK
now just get errors about starvation mode.....
also can't find anything about how to join a team, or be able to login the thw website........
this is almost as user friendly as WCG !!!!

Cheers JerWA..
Once I told MJ12 to connect to server directly rather than HTTP everything started working fine....
hmmm, methinks my ISP may be doing something nasty with http filters....

Umm... How does this mj12 thing work???? I need to leave my connection open? does it crunch like Einstein or WCG. 1.5 million credits a day? WTF are you people talking about. I have cable broadband. Is this good? can I run this at the same time as WCG. Since Einstein is down I am crunching WCG full time on 3 machines. ( except what is left in the cache ). I'm SO confused........

It's not CPU crunching, it's connection crunching. MJ12 is doing a project, Dsearch, that's essentially crawling websites to index them (just like Google or Yahoo do). The difference is they're getting users to do it, hence the Dsearch (distributed).
It uses very little CPU (bounces from 0 to 2% on mine) but will run your internet connection into the ground (essentially use as much of it as you let it). I've got mine capped down at around 160 KB/s download and 25 KB/s upload and it's been cruising right along so far.
Oh, and to answer your question, I'm running MJ12 right along side BOINC since it uses so little CPU.
The "results" are how many URLs you crawled. With 1 hour 58 minutes run-time I've got 41,703 URLs done. My stats on MJ12 don't reflect that yet though, even though I just up'd my third one (should be at 30,000 not 20,000). _________________
