Einstein@Home will be offline until further notice.
Two disks have failed in the main file server. This server uses a raid6
array so we cannot afford any to lose any more disks. The project will
remain offline until the raid array has time to rebuild.
More news will be posted here as it becomes available.
Thank you,
David Hammer

Update:

The raid array should finish rebuilding at about 15:00 UTC but the project
will be kept offline to upgrade some hardware in the fileserver that should
increase the reliability. We will try to have E@H running again by 22:00 UTC.

What's funny is that when I realized it was down, I looked to see if anyone else had posted about it first & didn't see this thread. Oh well. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Mine's still not running. I've got three complete units at 100%. Tried killing and restarting, but only see "Listening on port 31416" in the messages. Two other boxes are the same.
Any ideas??? _________________

Yes, go to project tab, click on Eisntein, and click Update. You will probably see a timer next to Einstein that is over 100 hours, that's how long it would wait on it's own. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

Down again.
Einstein@Home STATUS
[Last update: Mon Jan 1 18:40:12 UTC 2007]
Einstein@Home will be offline until further notice.
The main file server has failed once again. At this time we do not know
how serious the problem is. The project may be down for a couple of days
until a temporary replacement fileserver can be put in place.
More news will be posted here as it becomes available.
Thank you,

Listen, I'll not allow anyone to bring facts and reason into this debate.
There is a time and place for that type of thing. Do it elsewhere. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

This really seems to be a recurring problem lately. Is this common with BOINC projects in general, or just Einstein?
Maybe I should be working on another project. Which ones are favored by my fellow Knights? Perhaps someone is trying to calculate how many shrubs it takes to fill the Albert Hall? _________________

Just a couple of weeks ago Einstein was bragging about how long they had been up but now they can't stay that way. This isn't the norm for them. Generally the projects stay up pretty well. _________________

I think it's more a problem with the nature of computers. Sometimes things fail. Definately have a back-up project for anything your run, and if you're thinking of other projects, go with something that holds your interest. You'll be glad you did.
Fairly complete lists can be found on many of the stats sites, browsing around these boards, or just waiting for the kaNi!ghts to respond (and they will).
So, without further ado, I shall pimp my favorite: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

I got a bad drive from the egg on my last purchase. Ran for 2 weeks then puked with an on-board controller problem (diagnosed by WDD's software). RMA'd it to WDD for no cost (shipping included) and noticed the drive they sent me was a newer revision so it must have been something they knew about. Thankfully with some crazy tricks I was able to get the data off of it, so no harm no foul. Not really New Eggs fault anyways, just thought I'd share. I lurv the egg.
That said, there are lots of projects. I've spent years with SETI, but I'm diversifying now. SETI, Climate Prediction, Rosetta, and QMC are the ones I've got dedicated machines on now. Plan to add WCG and maybe Einstein to the list today, maybe with something else on low priority in case Einstein keeps having issues. _________________

That is like me. I ran seti for years all the way from classic. After crunch3r fiasco I thought long and hard about continuing to crunch at all. Then the Chicken made his app and benchmark tool and I found this team. I don't do seti anymore and I am about to have more Einstien units than seti. I just started WCG and KWSN really needs help there. I am still considering other projects, but I will never go back to seti. _________________ a.k.a. Not a good start to the year
If you go here: http://nemocam.phys.uwm.edu and click on the Live Video link you can see the server (it's the one with the lights on it facing the camera - normally flashing, currently static) and may catch them working on it.
