Okay, so my question is this....
Does the Linux 2.6 kernel outperform the 2.4 one...
I've just switched from Slackware 10.2 (2.4.31 based kernel) to ZenWalk (a Slackware based distro, but with a 2.6.17.11 kernel)...and the new plethora of kernel options are all new to an ageing knight (though not so old that he couldn't get ndiswrapper, encrypted mounts, alsa, gnomad2 and lvm working)...So is the new kernel more perforamt, and do I have to tweak any of them there PREMPT options to get even better performance ?
p.s. to any windows users - just hit the back button and pretend that life is really really really simple
Ni!

back on my gentoo box when i went between kernel versions for network issues, I saw absolutly no detectable difference in how much time it would take to finish a F@H unit or boinc unit.
Only difference I've found and then again miniscule was optomisng the kernel, so it left more available ram. But then when i dropped a extra 512mb of ram into it that really didn't matter either. _________________ Smoke-em if you got-em I do.. |
