several months ago i tried to update my version of BOINC - i'm an old SET@HOME user and i converted way back then - all was going fine until i tried to update - the reccommendation was to uninstall and try again. ZAP it went away ..... i saw a message board on the net and it was suggested to scan the registry and delete all "finds" of "boinc" - which i did .... i miss the thing and want to get back on-board.
when i try (v5.20) i get a diaglogue with:
INTERNAL ERROR 2718
{6744FF41-012F-4CC9-8B01-242D9CF83ED8}
and it goes away - tried going back to "16" and same problem

SETI@home member since 13 Oct 2001
Total credit 22,313.83
Recent average credit 0.07
SETI@home classic workunits 1,217
SETI@home classic CPU time 57,867 hours

got any suggestions on how to get back on

lost in space

There's someone else with the problem back in April that got no reply.

I also found references to the problem with several other applications, none of which have a fix. Your Windows Installer is horked, and the only solution I was was to reinstall the OS.

It's not a BOINC thing, basically. It's a Windows thing. And, as one of the posts I found about it put it, you could spend the rest of your life rooting around in your registry without ever managing to fix it. Or, you could spend an hour to reinstall the OS.

You could always back up your registry and try axing any mention of the key 6744FF41-012F-4CC9-8B01-242D9CF83ED8.

Hi

I think you have 3 options (at least)

1 if you made a registry backup before adjusting in it, just go back to that.
(Real nerd's do not do backup, they cry)
2 You find that key on another M$ Windows, and take that into the defect one.
3 Reinstall M$ Windows.
4 Install one of the Linux distributions.
5 Get a life on a small island without electricity and computers.

Regards
