Ok, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall BOINC on my home pc. Rolling Eyes Mainly because of it showing up as running only 6% of the time even though BOINC is set to run when it is on.

The uninstall and reinstall went well. I went to re-register in the apps and I don't remember/can't find the Pirates or Belgian Beer url to enter to rejoin them on this PC.

If anyone has them (and is feeling generous) would you post them for me?

Pirates@Home? Thought that project was dead. http://pirates.spy-hill.net/

Dunno about the other one, it's not on BOINCStats. The sites it is on say it's offline, and the only links I can find to it don't work.

Thanks for the links.

Now the new problems, When I go to attach to pirates, it fails after I put in my password, I checked it at the site and it is correct, so maybe they have something down.

THe beer sit seems to be down altogether. Crying or Very sad

I will have to try to re-attach at home later, maybe there was a problem with their site.

As for the Beer site, it seems to be completely down....

From the Belgian Beer site -

The project will be unattended for 2 weeks while I'm on holiday. See you then.

Have you had any success attaching yet?

Funny thing, I got some work units on another machine yesterady & I saw the site was up. So I tried to re-attach & it gave me the same problem. I will try again today.

You call that a problem? Here is a partial list of mine and I would be very grateful if anyone can throw some light onto this collection of frustrating happenings:
locked by file upload handler (in red): I have been getting this on SETI and now also on Boincsimap. I am afraid I will have to jettison both projects as this has been going on too long (and after a number of resets, detachments and reattachments). Too bad, I liked SETI.
Prime Grid is not uploading. Three finished units have been sitting there for a week or so. The transfer site is getting crowded!
ABCathome (ready to report since several days) is doing again what it did before I detached and reattached: server returned nothing (no headers, no data). Enough is enough - out with ABC.
Knock on wood, CPDN is still running after 2 days (and on my fourth or fifth try), but they are already warning me that I will not finish in time, so perhaps I will get cut off. Oh well, I still have a whole bunch of other projects. It just bugs me that I cannot find a solution to the above problems. I would especially like to run SETI again. BTW, I have run some or all of these points on various fora, but no solution has been forthcoming. I thought that the superior wisdom of the knights might come to the rescue.

Bellator, have you updated BOINC to the latest version, mainly 5.8.16? Sometimes an updated version can solve most problems. I would also advise you to reset both projects if the earlier does not work.

SETI has had some upload problems at times, and since yesterday they have the master science database (thumper) not working, which would also affect uploads and downloads of files.

Yes, I am using 5.8.16. I have also tried using GridRepublic as project manager. But no matter what I do, these problems persist.. Thanks for your interest, though!

If resetting the project doesn't stop the problem then the project ISN'T the problem.

I'd say to stop all the work (abort all ongoing work to be nice, so the projects can resend those units out), uninstall BOINC, manually delete the directory structure it creates, and then go registry surfing for all project names and boinc to manually remove those too. Once that's out I'd make sure your OS is up to snuff on patches, run all the anti-virus/trojan/malware/spyware tools you can find, a few cleanup utilities like crapcleaner, error check and defrag your hard drive, etc. A tune-up, as it were.

After that reinstall BOINC, and don't use any 3rd party stuff that might muck things up. Out of curiosity, what are the specs on the machine(s) having problems?

Thanks JerWA, that just might do the trick. Stil do not understand why some of the projects run OK, but this has become too, too frustrating, so I am going to try it. It's a rainy day so that will keep me busy. Just wondering - will I keep my credits or do I start from zero zilch?

Your stats are maintained by the projects, so thankfully nothing you do on your side will break them (which is good for the both of us, I've done my share of breaking BOINC lol). You just need to remember your email and password for the projects (which is easier than remembering the account IDs you used to have to remember).

Update: everything seems to be working fine, but the proof will come when I have finished a few wus. Could not reattach SETI, but believe that is a temporary problem. Will let you know in a day or so how I am making out, but this appears to be the solution to my problem (at long, long last) and perhaps that of a number of other people as well. I recommend them to try your suggestion. Thanks again.

Your SETi problems are not a surprise. SETI is having problems of their own right now, so it may be a little while until you can re-attach.
