Hi all, I’d like your opinion on an idea of mine. It can be found on: http://alternativemishmash.blogspot.com. I’d appreciate your responses, be it constructive criticism, your approval, or admitting confusion. Corrections and additional knowledge will be welcomed with open arms. I don’t mind if you email or post a comment… I’m pretty desperate for feedback if you couldn’t tell. It's a mix of physics, maths and renewable energy.... _________________ Money can't buy happiness, but it lets you be miserable in comfort. |

There goes using the old noggin today. That was way over my head. Of course, I am to physics what Einstein was to the Patent Office, useless. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I think this knight is way too clever for us mere loonies.
But it only proves that the women here are the intelligent ones. _________________

I wouldn't say that JONB, they hang out her with us, that kind of puts a dimmer on the whole intelligent bit. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

True. Now that you say that, and after much deliberation.................
I agree. By the very fact that they are here, they can not be intelligent Q.E.D.
But what does that make us???? _________________

Well, aside from the obvious that you can't create a perfect system, (friction, wear, gravity, etc) I think it has some good potential to recover excess energy from whatever you're running.
How practical it would turn out is more a matter of engineering and materials. But keep at it, I think you may be onto something. Just remember, they always said pigs would never fly.
*edit: A thought just occured to me, tidal or wave energy... _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Sorry about the link Thanks for fixing it JerWA! And we can be both intelligent and crazy... it's eccentricity...
A Shrubbery: I know that the perfect system could never be recreated- I thought it would make the page simpler to overlook those forces. When it comes to materials etc I'm completely at a loss- I need to wait a few years to be studying for my degree before I know what to do about that! I'm going to research tidal energy and see how I can incorporate it- thanks for the support! _________________ Money can't buy happiness, but it lets you be miserable in comfort. |

Ah! I was wondering who that was! I'm in the process of posting a reply to your comment (as well as some other issues that people had) on the blog but I'll keep you updated here too. _________________ Money can't buy happiness, but it lets you be miserable in comfort. |

Ha Ha so therefore a woman! Tarred by your own brush!
You can run but is it worth the effort?
If your idea could be used on some way to harness tidal energy, you might just save us all. Keep up the research. _________________

That's an interesting way to recover mechanical energy. I agree it might not be practical for a car, be it might have some application for large ships. The springs in your device are subject to harmonic motion, and big vessels like ocean liners and aircraft carriers use large gyroscopes to stabilized the craft and damp out harmonic motion (from ocean waves, naturally). A gizmo like yours might be used to damp out harmonic motion and recover mechanical energy at the same time.
I think there is some similarity to your whatzit and the regenerative braking system used to recover braking energy in some hybrid vehicles.

Yep, and they're all synonyms for eccentric.

You've definitely helped! I've now got new areas to research, and a lot to write up, so you're keeping me busy! Thanks everyone! _________________ Money can't buy happiness, but it lets you be miserable in comfort. |
