There are 2 new projects out there, but are currently closed alphas.
ABC@home
DepSpid
ABC looks at trying to find abc triples related to the ABC conjecture up 10^15.
DepSpid is a distributed type of a web crawler (like the ones used by search engines) and has two major goals:
1st: Build up a database containing the dependencies between individual web sites and groups of web sites.
2nd: Collect statistical data about the structure of the web.
All information collected by the spider will be made publically available. _________________ When in doubt, kick it until it works. |

Hmmmmmm this is what I get:

Please try the following:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

I wonder if the evil network people have anything to do with this. I will have to try from home later. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Probably. Behind their backs (and I know this is absolutely completely politically incorrect, so please don't flame me on it), they are referred to as the network nazis, although network hypocrites would be more appropriate. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

No idea, Wabbit.
As posted by Jar Jar Binks on the project message board -
Quote: | As might be expected, many of you are puzzled what this project is about. Since you discovered the site - a bit sooner than anticipated I might say - I owe it to give you some background.
The project is an effort of people from the BOINC.BE team. The idea of an own BOINC project comes up from time to time in our discussions, no doubt under the influence of that delicious blond or brown liquid: Belgian beer. There have been some valid ideas, but the talks always went silent after a short while since nobody in the team actually knows what it involves to set up and run a BOINC project.
This time I decided to take the bull by the horns, and set up a project step by step the way it should be done, no shortcuts. While we're at it, I thought we might as well use a nice theme people can talk about: Belgian beer. To give you an idea of the planning, this is a quote from the BOINC.BE forum:
In this Phase III I would like to set as objectives:
- Get a logo. I have asked one of our team's graphic artists if he can have a go at this.
- Get the sample application that comes with the Boinc server sources compiled under Linux and Windows. For this I will need someone with a Visual-C++ compiler under Windows to help out.
- Figure out how to produce work and validate it.
- Release some sample work and give credit for it. At that point I gather we'll understand most of what's involved in setting up a real life project.
After this we'll see if there is a Phase IV or not.
I can't promise that some day this will turn into a real BOINC project. Chances are slim, but I don't exclude it either.
In the mean time I invite you all to use the forum. Feel free to comment on the website looks and report bugs. Please be gentle on the server. For the moment I run this project on a machine at home. If the load becomes too high, I won't be able to keep the site up 24/7.
Until further notice the correct URL is http://bebeer.dyndns.org:2222/bebeer If and when that would change, I will announce it in advance. If you do find that the site is no longer available for a longer period, I suggest you check out the BOINC.BE forum to see what happened.
Cheers, Jar Jar Binks |
From what I can gather the BOINC.BE team decided to set up a project just to see how it is done and what is involved with doing it.
Maybe we could set up our own BOINC project. We could research the tastiest way to barbecue a cow, or the best PGGB recipe. _________________ My brain hurts.
