Can someone talk me through it real simple-like? I just converted an XP box to Ubuntu and I'm just now settling in. I'd like to get it back to BOINCing but I haven't yet figured out how to the get the client to install.

Thanks,

-Elwood

If I'm not mistaken, there is a BOINC client in the list of available packages in the package installer.

"Application"-> "Add or remove programs"

I have not used it, but I saw it there oncet.

I just finally got around to getting BOINC to work on Ubuntu. It's the kids' computer, so I don't get into it often. Tip: you have to right click and give yourself permission to open the package. Then you have to open each of the BOINC executable files and manually configure the manager to connect to localhost. After that, it's all smooth sailing so long as you pick a project compatible with linux (I'm trying Einstein for now.)

Cheers,

-Elwood

There are some projects, like SIMAP, that are *nix compatible but require special steps to make work. The project forums usually have details on how to do that.
