And can I just say there is nothing more frustrating than having half your parts for a new machine and having to wait on the rest? Will be adding an E6400 core 2 to my system soon. Still bouncing around on which motherboard to get right now. Basically bouncing between the abit AB9 Pro and the Asus P5B. _________________

Actually, after much review, I think I've given up the single quad core idea. The processor alone is 4x as much as the Core2 Duo's I'm using now.
For the price of the Core2 Quad processor alone I could buy my entire computer again, including shipping (minus monitor)! Prices will drop by then, I'm sure, so maybe I'll just build a more performance oriented Core2 Duo hehe. Or a dual Duo, if I can find a motherboard for that. _________________

The main point to this system is an HTPC but I figure its still going to spend alot of its life twiddling its thumbs waiting for something to do, so it can happily shrub away during those hours. _________________

Ordered the remainder of my parts. If anyone here hasn't already done business with Directron I just want to give them another plug. Ordered at about 3 pm my time, nearly 5 pm for them. They still got them packed up and out to UPS inside half an hour. Now I just get to stalk the UPS page until monday. _________________

You could always entertain yourself by chasing down every mud brown truck you see over the weekend. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Both trucks should be here on monday, though Ill be checking the tracking pages about every 30 minutes incase they get here sooner. One box from Directron doing texas to Orgeon, the other from Newegg. Now even though I thought Newegg was based in California its coming from Tenessee. They were a day slower to box it up but offered 3 day select at a decent price so it should all hit the same day. Knowing Murphys Law both boxes will show up 20 minutes before I have to head to work. _________________

One box is on a train having just left Commerce City, Co.
The other is on a plane headed towards Dallas Forth Worth. So the second box is behind at the moment but if it stays airborne it should get out in front pretty quickly. _________________

I do beleive you've created a new spectator sport.
Competitive box racing. I forsee this overtaking watching grass grow at a glacial pace. Hmm, glacier races... _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Nice choices. Let us know when you put it together. I was also wondering if you might have any problems with the JMicron controller if you got the P5B.
Good luck with your new rig. |

As folks seem to want updates I shall oblige
The newegg box technically beat the Directron box to Portland. Neither made it past the local warehouse on friday though sadly. I'm not quite sure why on the Newegg box as it made it into Portland before 8 pm on Thursday. Either way they will hopefull both make it here on Friday while someone is at the house to sign for them. The hope is they arrive after my wife has woken up for the day but before she leaves for her night shift. Depending on whether or not I get off my rear in the next two days and catch up on my homework it will either go together monday night or some time over the following few days. _________________

Well the parts all made it to the house while I was at work today. Sadly homework and an early shift tomorrow meant the system is not fully up and running yet. Hopefully together tomorrow sometime and shrubbing by Wednesday. _________________

You do know that you can keep your sig on file with UPS or Fed-X. That is what I do, and they just leave it at the door. Of course my neighborhood is safe.
Unless you are married. You may have heard of the guy in Michigan who killed his wife, cut her up and spread her around the park? They live just down the street, kinda. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

By my outlook Its not a bad neighborhood. (I'm from central California. Anywhere I don't see people obviously carrying guns is a good neighborhood by my outlook) but its I do live on a semi-busy corner so I'd rather not leave a thousand dollars in parts sitting on the porch. _________________
