Just placed into operation two new SoB shrubbing Workstations.
Specs are:-
Dual XEON Dual-Core CPUs @ 3.0 GHz + 4 Mb L2 Cache
4 Gb FBDIMM RAM Memory,
ATI Radeon X1650 Pro PCI-X Video Card + 512 Mb DDR RAM,
2 x Seagate 320 Gb SATA-II Hard Drives in a RAID
Windoze XP Pro.
Each CPU holds 4 virtual CPUs, so each PC has 8 Virtual Processors.
Here is a screen shot from 1 of the PCs showing 8 instances of SoB with each being linked to a separate virtual CPU.
Notice that Client # 8 is running about 50% faster than the other 7. Intel could not provide any valid explanation, but it is consistent on both computers.

Ni Sir CadCam!!
4 Gb of ram seems a bit low for 4 real cores , let alone 8 virtual ones
What does Windows mem manager say about utilisation etc ?
Affinities and prioritys ?
Nice box !!
(Wating for the Quad Core AMD to swap out on a couple of my Dualy boxes - I know , I know , new MoBos and Ram for the old opterons , but 8 real cores )

I heard the quad core AMDs are really power hungry, which results in lots of heat output. That's why I'm waiting for Intel Core4s to be cheap(er) hehe. _________________

if you're only running a 32bit OS 4gb is the max you can have.... I have a dual xeon dual core system with only 2 gig and it runs fine.... _________________ Oh, it's blessed are the meek!, Well I'm glad they'll get something as they have a hell of a time!

Sir Cadcam... are these woodcrests or Dempseys..... (5100 or 5000 serires) if there woodcrests I'd love to know how you got the virtual cpus configured... I know the dempseys have HT installed.... also do some benchmarks of HT vs nonHT sometimes the system works slower as a whole with HT enabled.....
I'm getting ready to get a couple of E5320's (thats 8 real cores)......
here's a link to my dual dual....

Which OS are you running on that box?
I thought Windoze XP Pro was limited to 2 physical processors?
(maximum 4 logical processors when using HT)

the Windows license agreement in controlled by slots/sockets and not by the actual number of cores etc
so XP Pro will work fine with a 2 slot each with a quad core CPU.... (8 cores) .... but don't know about vista though
