You might want to check your Comcast terms of service to be sure they don't have monthly traffic caps. And if they do, stay underneath them. Although as I understand it, all ISP's with caps send out a warning e-mail or two before nuking you Confused .

You can put 3 computers on 1 line, Mildew has 5 (or so) running on a 10 mb (or so) line, but you might want to start out a bit slower Confused . Basically an XP based 'puter will keep a 3 mb line connection running up to its limits if you let it Cool .

Ok now tell me how to tell if I am doing OK. On one machine in 1:30 I did 9,889 total. and on the other in 1:15 i did 7,800 aprox. Not going to look at the other as it has no monitor attached.

Edit Wait I think I get it. I will just see it on thursday. Must sleep.

As far as Comcast is concerned... I am unable to find actual numbers on their website but their Terms of service do include rather nebulous statements like
Quote:
You shall ensure that your use of the Service does not restrict, inhibit, interfere with, or degrade any other user's use of the Service, nor represent (in the sole judgment of Comcast) an overly large burden on the network.
(emphasis added)

So you might not want to let it go full-bore 24/7. Thats what the throttling settings are for though.

I use Cox and they have specific numbers in their terms of service. My package gets 40 gigabytes downstream and 10 gigabytes upstream per month. However I and some of my friends have gone WAY above these limits in the past with no problems. So I guess it just depends on how adventurous you want to be Smile

Or like what happened to me about 20 mins ago, where you have your isp show a page that states you may have a "blaster" like virus on your computer due to having too many simultanous connections open. Shocked

That what i get for opening my dl to 100% and 75 workers, and snoozing my upload.

Haha that's awesome. Wonder if I can make my ISP send me unhappy mail like that.

PS: 220k URLs in 11hrs 25mins.

I just throttled everything to 50%, and I just turned it back up to 100% I should have 14 barrels to upload.

I just bumped my cap up 1024k to see what it thinks. It's night here, everyone off the network but me. Twisted Evil

Edit: Hrm, I guess it isn't impressed. I bumped thread priorities up (to make sure they were higher for MJ12 than BOINC stuff), max workers up, and the download and upload cap, but active workers is still hovering around where it was before ( ~8 ) and network utilization hasn't gone up either. Any ideas?

Edit2: Nevermind. Restarting is required for some of these changes.

I noticed running more than 60 threads on one machine doesn't really give you any extra speed. Not really sure why. That's why I'm running it on multiple machines.

Also, when using a single client on a fast connection, you should make sure that the maximum number of buckets are set to at least 10 or so. Often the client will end up with a lot of nearly-finnished buckest where the remaining URLs are on a very slow server, and unless you have other active buckets the overall speed will suffer.

Lastly, you may want to keep an eye on you harddrive. Every time a bucket is completed, the client goes through the saved data to sort and compress it. This means reading through 100 MB or more of heavily fragmented data, which may put a lot of stress on the drive, especially if you have a slow older drive in combination with a fast connection.
