Ok the stats update team has a question for those who like it. It seems the poll is tied some want the forum others what the website. As most know the website has some scrolling issues due to the use of individual flash movies.
We have created a test page to see what people think.. So please comment on your thoughts of the test page..

I like the buttons used for "Biological & Medical", but (as with the original incarnation) I find I have to click twice on the buttons to get to the selected page. Otherwise, a good improvement. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Thank Microshaft for that one.. You activate the flash control by clicking once then you select the button of your choice by clicking again.
Darn security settings.. Those with lower internet explorer settings or using Mozilla Firefox will not have that problem.

I think the font needs to be changed. It looks fine in bold but not otherwise. |
That would be because the site it is on does not have a ton of bandwidth may have to be a little patient as it loads especialy if my bandwidth is saturated with requests. _________________ Smoke-em if you got-em I do..

I don't have Opera on this PC anymore I did however test it with firefox and you don't have to click twice, also have not tried it with ie 7 as i'm not brave enough to put that on any of my personal pc's yet. _________________ Smoke-em if you got-em I do.. |

I tried it. Unfortunately I AM running IE 7. I installed it to attempt to fix a SLOOOOWWWW (6 to 7 second) browser start up (it cropped up in the last couple of weeks). No viruses or spyware on the machin. I defragged and everything else I could think of. So I figured maybe that would work. It didn't. I figure I am going to have to reformat the drive and reinstall everything, but enough of my problems.
The site looks great. I was having trouble with some of the buttons....but that could be my machine. So I think my opinion here is utterly useless.

I think it's a great improvement. Didn't take long to download and scrolls perfectly. I too have to click on the buttons twice and i'm also running IE7.(with no problems so far I might add) I did notice a project missing from the button selections though. It would be Project Neuron if you're interested. Great work! And thank you.

plus another comment. and this is just my personal taste so feel free to ignore it , I think Sans Serif fonts look better on web pages as they look clearer.. eg arial, helvetica etc rather that times new roman.... again just my personal tastes...... ingnore it if you wish
but I do like it....

Nice work Cohiba
One thing I would prefer is to have a new browser page initiated with a button click. It gets tedious backing up to the root page when you are many clicks down the structure. _________________ KWSN Sir CADCAM of the Wooden Rabbit

Speaking as someone who deals with search engines for a living, if you want the search engines to be able to crawl the site, using Flash for navigation is a bad idea. Flash basically makes the site uncrawlable beyond the front page. No crawling = no indexing. Being indexed in the search engines can lead to new members. You never know what odd searches some Monty Python fan might be doing, and the more stuff you rank for, the better the odds of them finding us. _________________ KWSN Forum Admin

It looks good, just one suggestion: The right hand column is completely empty past the noteable links, and it forces a very wide display (top graphic too). A narrower layout would be friendlier to people with smaller monitors.

Allow me to translate rodent-speak.
Men often call their penis "the lizard". As in, I gotta go drain the lizard.
The monitor lizard is a very famous lizard.
It then follows that: small monitor=small lizard.
Ergo ipso facto, Sir Hamster has a little Willy . _________________

Quite correct, except that origin of the name has nothing to do with lizards or monitors.
The namesake Willy is a different creature entirely.
Don't I wish!

Going back to the main subject of this thread (much as I hate keeping to the point), several thoughts occur:
I agree with Sir Brian about the font - just compare the readability of the site with the same listing in the forum.
On the point of readability - could you use a table (project, 1st, 2nd, etc.) rather than a list?
The graphic file size can be easily cured by converting your .gif's (163/114kB) to .jpg's (~45/35kB). [I use IrfanView (free, of course) for all my conversions - indispensible if you do much with graphics]. I'm using a 1280x1024 monitor at the moment, and the graphics look fine at the current size, but moving to 1024x768 (about the best an older 15" can manage), they're not so good - possibly use the smaller header for all pages?
Why not go back to good ole html for the buttons - not quite as flashy (sic!), but simple and work with any browser. There are thousands of free buttons on the web, or I (or possibly Atomic Booty - she's good at design) could fairly easily knock up something. _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Sir Al could you do a sample sheet and post here? I used Cohiba's FTP, it got to Seti and then I started getting error messages.
Any help appreciated. I will email the powers that be and see about another updater.
