It looks like ATI have announced a framework to enable DC type projects to utilise the power of their GPU (Graphics Card Processors).

These are traditionally faster than that of the PC's CPU that the card installed in, and so leads to a significant performance boost.

looks very interesting, even microsoft are gettining in on the act promising DirectX API's for apps to use. I hope that Open Source projects can easily use these without breaking any licensing issues. I know that Simon Zadra (Chicken of agnor) had to buy the intel compilers to get access to the SSE extensions in AMD and intel CPU's.

Let's hope ATI does the honorable thing and doesn't try to make a profit out of licensing this.......

Hey, where is Mr. Snrub anyway? I haven't seen him skulking around the castle in quite some time.

you know years ago while trying to overclock a computer that was a dog, I found that a faster video card made seti classic run faster. Overclocking the card made even more of a difference. I don't know if that is true anymore as I no longer bother with computers that take 2 days per unit.

The classic seti client was using quite a lot of CPU to make the pretty pictures... Rolling Eyes

The fastest way to shrub, then and now, is to run a command-line client if available. The best screen saver is the old screen power-off anyway Smile

(Ok, sure, I have to admit that if I'd never seen my co-workers flashy screen savers I'd never found out about distributed computing at all, but that's a different story)

After digging into this further, it only runs on x1900 & x1950 GPU based cards....the ones that cost over £250 or $400 !!!!

the reason is the number of pixel pipelines - 48, the card has.....

It looks like they reassigned ID numbers, everyone has to grab the new one from their stats page. Wink
