#1131
and before I had time to blink, there were 6 WU's ready to crunch, with a 3½ day deadline.

There's no shortage of WU, it's just that this project tends to load a batch of them and then wait for the LTD to drop before it gets any more. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Shouldn't be necessary. BOINC is doing exactly what it is programmed for. Since Malaria Control sends multiple units at one time and they have a short deadline it is often thrown into EDF mode which decreases the LTD to a point that it will no longer download work. Once other projects fill in their share of CPU time, you'll see more work.
Not that things can't go hideously wrong, and with new and exciting results, but this type of thing is quite normal.
If you don't mind crunching more for Malaria than you've set in preferences, just hit the reset button on the project and it will grab another batch. Same result as detatching/re-attaching, just easier. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

But doesn't always work. Been there and done that. It may throw you into EDF mode but it will get you more work and from my own experience I've had no problems meeting the deadline for all the work I had cached at the time of the new download. _________________

Actually right after I read this about me not getting anymore Malaria WU's, I just got 23 of them.

Funny, I always get them in batches of 30. Ocassionally it will feel ambitious and download another 30 one minute later. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Actually, EDF probs aren't so bad here, though it can get into them. Tanpaku has much shorter deadlines and as such will invoke EDF mode on 3 WUs. Each one completes in about 4-8 minutes, and then it grabs more without other projects having a time to run
I figured I'll have to selectively allow/suspend work fetch to get other stuff on for now, and yeah I do have a fair amount of CPDN stuff left |

There's a thread on BOINCstats about this... Turns out that Willy ran a script that contained an error, and it deleted 200,000+ users or something from his dBase, including his own account Ironically, a search on his page, my combined stats is non-existent, but per project stats still exist.
He's busy restoring the users... |

Just out of curiosity sake I had to check again. Users are up to 1290.
At this rate it looks like account creation will be open for a goodly while. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

It'd be funny if it took so long to fill the 2,000 crunchers, that the project was ready to incrementally increase it further, by the time they hit 2,000
Well, at least BOINCsynergy and FreeDC aren't sending all their crunchers to pick up the project... |

Malaria creates work dynamically. I don't fully understand it but basically as soon as a result is returned more results are automatically generated based on the just crunched data. Hence the short deadlines.
It gets complicated from that point on. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Looks like account creation is going to be closed soon. There was an article at www.sciencedaily.com and at "The Economist" (a major international weekly) about Malaria@Home.
Less than 1K remain before they close account creation.

It seems they are going to go over the 2,000 user mark; since they have already passed that mark.
