WCG you can just do the AIDS client which is recommended, since the Rosetta version of WCG is an older version.

Agreed. Opt out of the "rosetta" version of WCG and just run FA@H.

WCG is running a different Rosetta version however their science and aims are not the same as Rosetta, beyond the basic improving humainty and all that.

If you choose to run only the Fight Aids section, I'm sure they will welcome your contribution there as well. I run both and get about 2/3 FAAH anyway.

Ahem,

Quote:
Rosetta@home is run by the bakerlab as a way to accelerate development of the Rosetta code.
...
Conversely, our project, HPF on the WCG, aims to use stable versions of Rosetta to make predictions that can be presented to biologists and biomedical researchers in comprehensive databases with intuitive front ends.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Proteome_Folding_Project#Relation_of_HPF_with_Rosetta.40home

The version of Rosetta used in Rosetta@home is still in development. The work units are tests that are trying to predict structures of proteins already known.

The Human Proteome Folding Project (running on World Community Grid and grid.org) is using the ready-for-primetime version of Rosetta to predict unknown structures of proteins. This may ultimately help smart people identify the functions of these proteins which may lead to new cures and treatments.

World Community Grid's HPF project is not doing the same thing as Rosetta@home.

Rosetta@home = newest version of Rosetta being tested only

WCG HPF = older version of Rosetta (proven to work) doing real work on real proteins

This is the situation to the best of my understanding.

Our RAC dropped about 2K to 192,592. Still a higher RAC than Ars Technia.

OK, so where does this place Ralph?
I guess kinda like revisions of some Linux distros:

WCG = Released/Stable (Version 4.22)
Rosetta = Next release/Testing (Version 5.07)
Ralph = Development/Unstable (Version 5.12)

OK, I finally joined WCG. Ni! Thinking about running both ends: WCG & Ralph, no Rosetta...

Dammit! Did I join the wrong team? Who are these kanigits, Team 6998? What is the correct team number for WCG?

BTW (on the science side). I noticed that WCG downloaded rosetta_4.22 as soon as I attached, my Rosetta@Home is using rosetta_5.07, and Ralph news (on the forum) uses the Rosetta logo - are these projects all doing much the same? On the WCG page, it only shows Aids and Folding as current projects, so are they all related to Folding@Home?

BTBTW - for Killerrabbit - have you noticed the 2nd link at the very bottom of the forum pages?
(I don't know if they change; it's currently this).

Yeah, I noticed that also, and given that I have crunched some for Rosseta (though I'm doing more on RALPH on that front now), I just disabled the human proteam portion of WCG, so it only grabs fight aids at home WUs. I still let it crunch the first couple Rosseta old version it grabbed.

Until the client is setup, and one's account is created, well it will grab from all the default selected projects, until one has a chance to go in there and change the client preferences. Once this is done, BOINC will be updated, and only grab FAAH for one. One can then just crunch current version Rosseta, from their own project...

RALPH is alpha/beta testing apps for Rosseta to work out some of the bugs before giving it to the Rosseta community at large. This in part, because many Rosseta crunchers weren't happy with some of the bugs they were running into, and weren't up to an alpha test I s'pose...

And btw, RALPH app version 5.11 and 5.12 has introduced a slight performance delay/issue with using my comp (and I'm gathering when I brought this up some others are also), which wasn't there in previous versions.

RALPH is a test for Rosseta, which sorta does leave RALPH getting newer versions for testing. I guess if Rosseta is said to be a test, then RALPH would be a pre-test for the test #ni-1

Still, I run Rosseta for Rosseta, so I chose to opt out of running another version under WCG...

I knew it was there and Mr Snrub found it and illustrated what I was trying to say much better and more clearly.

Let's take him out to be stoned now. We'll have no reason and thinking going on here.

WCG is doing actual science on the health front with both (soon to be three) applications. It's still of course your idle time to donate as you see fit but it is not an obsolete version of Rosetta by any case.

As long as people make informed decisions I'm happy with whatever the result may be.
