That's what you get for bringing out the dead. They only accepted apps up to 450 users. Now they just tell you to bugger off.
Maybe someday they'll play nice.
Try again after beta testing ends or when someone actually reopens this thread to say what the title says. Is that obscure enough? I could always have Sir Griz try to explain it for you. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

I am sure one day they will open up account creation to let all Knights in, after they have tested it enough.

Hmmm. That one caught me too, then I looked at the date on the first post.
(I just wish sites like that would take an e-mail address to let potential contributors know when they're open for business again, rather than just telling you to bugger orf.) _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Originally, they were going to open up for 500, but got some bogus account creations or something. The project staff deleted those accounts, but didn't open it back up.
The funny thing is I almost did get into the alpha (back when there was only 22 members, it let me into the signup page), but I backed out. The next day it was closed, when after some thought I was like "OK, I might join"
Well anyhow, outside my bout of looniness I suspect it will be awhile having looked at their message board. Still appears to be a lot of issues to work out, before they'd likely think of opening it up. On the bright side, Churlle from LHC@home, had left LHC (announced it on that board), and has gone to help the people at Malaria... |

Yes, the date is important. This thread is somewhat dated.
Malaria Control is somewhat of an annoying project at this point. It does not follow the BOINC standard correctly. Rather than download the amount of work appropriate for your connect time (e.g. once a day) it downloads quite a bit, with a short deadline, takes over to meet the deadline, then does not download for a while. It follows the resource share over the long term and not the short term. The more projects your are attached to the messier it gets. _________________

They are not very long WU's anyway.

Slight update...
http://www.malariacontrol.net/forum_thread.php?id=119
Quote: | Early in June we will have number of additional datasets (=WU types) ready. At that point we would like to open for more users to join.
We still plan to do this stepwise, the target user population will be 2000 users for the next step. |
OK, I'm going to try to slip in the next time around, and with some luck we'll be able to slip some more team members in before it's open to everyone |

They recently have extended the dealines for the WU's. By about a day? But it has made a difference in how resource hungry the app. is. It should be a benefit for people that are on dial-up and/or do not connect that often.
I do not fall into that category but I have noticed that the app. does not "run until it's done" and prevent work on other projects. A step in the right direction. _________________

Remember this project is still new and they are working out the bugs.

Yeah, it's officially in beta; though from what I was reading on the forums it looks more "alpha" then what I had seen in QMC (OK, they have had a handful of WUs hit people with short deadlines) and uFluids...
But they're ironing em out, and not sure if this came to pass... But when Churlle announced his leaving LHC, he did give mention to helping over at Malaria Control (as well as his looking for another job). If he comes over, he did a really good job on LHC, and would be of immense help in sorting things out... |
