I installed the Folding @ Home client on my laptop computer, which has 2 gigs of memory. I ran the -config options and told the client to accept large work units and to use up to 1280 megs of RAM. The client downloaded a workunit that required the FahCore_7a.exe core, which I thought was one of the big-memory cores, but I see that it is only using 6 megs of memory. All of my boxes that have big memory usually download the QAH workunits, but not my laptop. Did I do something wrong? Right now my computer has over 1.5 gigs of RAM free, why isn't F@H using more memory to run faster? Windows XP SP2, Pentium 4 at 2.2 Ghz. _________________ One who takes snippets of reality and weaves them into his own imaginary world. |

Yummpining Yimmminini Sir Tilly Milliy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A LAPTOP with 2.0 Giggles ! (if I 'membner right)
This is'a job for ----------------Sir Clive Sinclair , failing that SFM can help
Personalllly Da frizz would run multipple (hic) instances of F@H on the one CPU in that LAPTOP (Sheesh - 2 Megs ram) they would share the CPU time ,-BUT would use all avail ram (burp) (sorry) in each instance .
Wrong of course , but worth a try

What command-line flags did you specify for the client?
(you need -advmethods if you want to use the QMD core)
Possibly no big WUs available at the time you first ran.
Once you have received work from one data server you often seem to 'lock' onto that one for subsequent work.
I note that I have a few systems that normally get 600 point big units (with FahCore96.exe) that are currently running smaller FahCore_7a.exe and FahCore_82.exe units at present.
