I tread softly...
I'm looking for a new laptop, not too expensive and not sure if there's any sites or brands you all can suggest.
I've got this Gateway Solo which is a work-horse, but technology has left it behind and I need an upgrade. I'm going to give this Gateway to my daughter, (who's eight), and I'm looking for a new machine which can...
1) Boinc
2) Play a DVD so a fairly descent screen size and what should I look for in a graphics card?
3) 40 gig hard-drive or higher
5) 512 memory at least
and I guess I should move on to Windows XP Professional right? (I'm still running Win98SE
I do do some work with music files, and lot of picture files, but I figure I have plenty of peripherals which can handle lots of memory
Soooo.... any sites? suggestions? recommendations? If I have to build one, I will, but would rather not have the stress...
Let me know..

... and well you should, asking silly questions like that around this place! Well, it just so happens we have just the thing for you ...
.. yes, this baby only needs several small rooms to be carried around with you.
It just so happens that the Lady Elderberry just purchased a laptop for school. We shopped around at the Dell site, Best Buy, Sam's Club, and finally found the best price on a Toshiba at Wal-Mart (yes, I can hear you guys laughing, now knock it off! ).

Abosulte minimum i believe would be a pent III 400 with 64mb of ram..
Now if you want a boinc o matic...
this one will work even though i know celery's aren't the gratest and its even a gateway to match your old gateway..
If you survived my HUGE graphic, if you had the money, and wanted the boinc screamer especialy once boinc comes out with a 64bit optimised client, now this puppy woould scream and boinc units like nuts..

From the looks of that hydrant, SF already passed there.
It's gonna take a lot of water to clean that up. _________________ A shrubbery is a joy forever
