FAH would be a very good choice. Wink

Yeah, from what I hear Rosetta really doesn't like being removed from memory. And it takes up a fair amount of it too. LanDroid, 4.19 is ANCIENT! Shocked There are several nasty bugs in it. I believe several projects have stopped handing out work to 4.19 clients and I would expect more and more to follow suit. Good luck with that Smile How did you get it on the box in the first place without Admin rights?

Well I don't think 4.19 used the official Windows installer. Or perhaps they tightened things up since I installed it. Perhaps I should go back to folding@home on that machine? I just upgraded to 5.2.6 on another machine.

Here's an article indicating Rosetta is producing good results.

See below for info on how Rosetta will be used directly in disease related research - Malaria, Anthrax, HIV, Alzheimer's, Cancer, etc.

Quote:
The above projects are not currently running on BOINC because we don't yet have an efficient queuing system which lets people submit jobs easily, but look for them soon! Also, rest assured that the structure prediction calculations currently running on your computers will have direct bearing on treating disease.

Well I finally shrubbed some Rosetta shrubs but I decided to take it back off for right now. I had some problems with my linux box just going completely idle when rosetta was supposedly "running". If I suspended the work unit in progress, another one would start and take up CPU time but when the old one started up again sometimes it would make progress and sometimes it wouldn't. Since I just left for a few weeks in Europe with my Parens, I decided to detatch for now and play with it again when I get back in January.

After reading a little of this this tread I checked my status within the team. To my suprise I was 5 out out about 10???? Sooooooo, I did a team search for 'the knights' instead of just 'knights' and found some known handles then pressed the join button.

555.41 credits now in the right team at this star date. Laughing

BTW, I'm running Rosetta with Predictor and SETI with no problems. I have configured for all to stay resident in memory (swap space is cheap).

I'm going over to Predictor to check for the same team thing now.

Onward into the fog!

Actually, in BOINC you don't bring your old credits with you. Even though you are ranked in the team based on your total credits, only the credits you earn while a member of the team, is added to the teams score.

I believe the only exception to this rule is CPDN.

I'm still learning something new everday. Smile

Well, at least new credits will go to the right team.

Thanks

yeah, this can be a problem... I suppose we should come up with some unified team creation strategy for BOINC that includes name, HTML version of the name and a descriptive description. This may help reduce confusion. The name must be exactly the same on all projects for them to be combined correctly in cross-project stats. The name is

The Knights Who Say Ni!

All spaces, punctuation and capitalization are important. Remember this and your quest may be a success! Forget it and the black knight may prevail the next time you cross paths!

Yes, a Grand Loonified Theory of team creation. Should some attempt be made to contact the splinter groups with a friendly invite?

Are you volunteering? Laughing I did think about it briefly last night and was then distracted by other matters. Unless we can hack the project and harvest email addresses Twisted Evil about all we have open to us is the project forum. If someone wants to put up a friendly post, probably in the Cafe section, I certainly wouldn't object. I may even get around to it some day... but not today as I'm about to head out to a Christmas party. #X-mas

I don't think the situation is as bad as we fear. I have made a search in the BoincSynergy stats, and only found these "splinters":

SETI: The Knights of NI - 3 members, 0 active
Predictor: Knights who said 'Ni!' - 6 members, 0 active
Rosetta: Knights Who Say Ni! - 8 members, 8 active

So an invite in Rosetta's Café should suffice.

Looks like Rosetta is running some weird experiments. Check out the names of your work units. Mine include phrases such as:

NEW_SOFT_CENTROID_PACKING
NO_BARCODE_FRAGS
NO_RANDOM_WTS_OR_FRAGS

Anyone know wazzup wi dat?

I think they are asking you to abort any WU's with RANDOM in it since those seem to be bad. But check their website first.

I think you're referring to this:

Quote:
December 20, 2005
A bad batch of work units were created that can be identified with work unit names that start with "DEFAULT_xxxxx_205_". If you are running one of these work units, please abort it. We will grant credit to those who have run and aborted these work units. Details about this error and recent changes can be found in our Technical News page.

Has anybody played with the new preference in Rosetta's general perfs 'Target CPU run time'? I've set mine to 4 hours and am getting up to 14 hour exspected run time shrubs.

I think you will find, that nearly all jobs will end inside your 4 hour limit.
I have left mine at the default 8 h, and most jobs finish between 7:50 and 8:05, no matter what the prognosis says.

I believe it works like this: each wu is set up to do a large number of individual runs. Before a run is started, the client checks if it can finish it inside the time limit, if not, it terminates the wu at that point.

Recommended Rosetta settings from the project overlords:

-Switch between applications every 2 hours (at least)
- Leave applications in memory while preempted? YES
- Allow for at least 200MB of disk space for this project (less than 30MB is used for current experiments)

Project FAQ

If you've had problems with R@h stalling when running multiple projects, then try out those settings. If you've had problems with penguins hiding your keys, pens, remote controls, etc., then I suggest a laying a series of NATO-approved anti-penguin mines in and around your territory.
