I've fired up Boinc once again, but rosetta and F@H don't mix. F@H takes over.

The solution is clear: shutdown FAH. Smile

No Jonnyv, that's the wrong solution. Fold man Fold. You never know, your life or someones close to you may very well depend on the research that that is coming from FAH.

BOINC has two projects - Predictor and Rosetta - that are similar and probably complementary to FAH. Have you looked at those Boinc projects and do you think Folding is superior to them?

Yes I think so to, FIXED and thank you for such a nice statement, LanDroid. Laughing Wink

Thank you for trying to explain to the non-believers, LanDroid. #ni-1

For Crazy and Alpha -

From BOINC News -
Quote:
September 25, 2005
Rosetta@home, a BOINC-based project at the University of Washington, has launched and is seeking participants. Its goal is "... to develop methods that accurately predict and design protein structures and complexes, an endeavor that may ultimately help researchers develop cures for human diseases."

From Rosetta@home -
Quote:
What is Rosetta@home?

Rosetta@home is a scientific research project that uses internet-connected computers to predict and design protein structures, and protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. Our goal is to develop methods that accurately predict and design protein structures and complexes, an endeavor that may ultimately help researchers develop cures for human diseases (See the Human Proteome Folding Project, a collaborative effort to apply our software on the human genome). Our project relies on individuals, like you, who donate time on their computers to collectively provide the computing power necessary to further develop, test, and improve our methods.

From Predictor@home -
Quote:
What is Predictor@home?

Predictor@home is a world-community experiment and effort to use distributed world-wide-web volunteer resources to assemble a supercomputer able to predict protein structure from protein sequence. Our work is aimed at testing and evaluating new algorithms and methods of protein structure prediction. We recently performed such tests in the context of the Sixth Biannual CASP (Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction) experiment, and now need to continue this development and testing with applications to real biological targets. Our goal is to utilize these approaches together with the immense computer power that can be harnessed through the internet and volunteers all over the world (you!) to address critical biomedical questions of protein-related diseases. Predictor@home is a pilot project of the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC)

I'm not biased towards BOINC or Folding, as I feel that the BOINC projects and Folding are all worthwhile.
Have you two looked into the various projects you can do with BOINC or do you only associate BOINC with Seti?

I did my adventure for the year, I drove the ATV up to my friends house last week end. For me that's an adventure. We've owned it for 5 years and I finally drove it. Being from Georgia, I work slow. Laughing

Yes, we are proud of Jimmy Carter, he is very slow and deliberate, he thinks everything through before he shows his azz. Not like George W. he just shows his first and then worries that people may have spied his widdle crack or whatever small "thing" might have slipped out. Laughing Laughing

One fatal flaw in that argument: you weren't a folder when you got here.

No, but look how long it took me to start. I'm a very slow starter. Laughing

I am putting Rosetta on additional computers. I can move up the KWSN rankings while helping the Knights move up the team chart.

Where do I find the pages that estimate how long to overtake people? I need to plan my world domination and don't know when to put the party in my calendar.

I'm getting a fair number of work units that end with status "Computation Error" rather than the much preferred "Ready to Report". I think this is mostly on a system running the 4.19 client, but not sure. Anyone else seeing this, wazzup?

I've noticed that with all the projects using BOINC 5x if you use 4.19. Using 5.2.2 and leaving in memory will solve it. Put 4.19 on a different drive and you can use it to run sztaki. That happened to me with Rosetta. And i'm actually running both BOINC's right now.. the 4.19 just for Sztaki, and 5.2.2 for the rest.

I have only noticed it on Rosetta so far. I can't upgrade to 5.X, don't have admin rights on this particular system. Embarassed Guess I'll disconnect from Rosetta and watch the others more closely. I'd probably switch back to folding before I'd try a Hungarian project. Shocked
