|
|
I started P1410_Q26x2 in Water GROMACS Core on September 9, 2005, it is at 1300/2500 and said to finish September 25, 2005, ot has 6d 21h 49m 44s to work, why is this one taking so long?
If you think this is a dumb question, pass on by. Thanks. _________________ Don't fuss about growing older, many are denied the chance. |

Is this on the old computer?
Gromacs units make use of special assembly operations on the computer, such as 3DNow! or SSE. Older computers don't have these operations available. That is why Gromacs units are quite fast on new machines and dreadfully slow on older machines (as opposed to Tinkers, which are processed about as fast on all machines and only depend on CPU frequency and such).
You can see if the client uses these assembly operations at the start of the unit. There should be a text like "SSE optimization OK" or something like that.
If you don't have these optimizations, that may be the reason for the slow progress.
What kind of machine is it? PII, PIII, MHz? _________________

What is that? All I know is that it is a HP Pavilion 8665C, 386 Pentium 3. Will the DSL help make it faster? I only have 1 machine running now, as I have to replace the hard drive on the upstairs machine. _________________ Don't fuss about growing older, many are denied the chance. |

the only thing dsl will make faster is the uploading and downloading of the units, not your computers ability to process the units. _________________ Smoke-em if you got-em I do.. |

It makes me sad that the Folding on the bad, bad mo-chine only had 65 more WU's to finish. It was a long a$$ GROMACS core also. That may have been the one to cure cancer. I hate that I will loose it and it hate a credit of 242 points. _________________ Don't fuss about growing older, many are denied the chance. |

Don't worry - if it is the cancer cure WU it won't be lost. If you don't return a workunit by the deadline it gets re-issued to another user.
Shame about the broken hard drive.
Maybe time to try and tug on the sympathy vote and see if a mystery knight will add a computer (or two) to your account

Oh mystery kNi!ght, please help this old woman out by adding a few more mo-chines to help me over the hump. The day my new hard drive is in and it comes home, this first thing I will do is download FAH.
I'm crying here Sir mystery kNi!ght, please , please... _________________ Don't fuss about growing older, many are denied the chance. |
