It probably will... BOINC declares it's overly committed and goes to EDF mode, before it's unable to complete the WUs. It's thinking in terms of "if it alternates between the projects" it won't get em done, but with EDF I've usually found more then a day to spare here...
Besides, a few of the LHC units I've been getting of late are short and finish off rather fast, with the others running straight through for the 1 million cyles around the super collider, or whatever they call each trip around... |

Three of my systems have all but finished the LHC workunits. So many of them just ran really really short. And I couldn't convince boinc that I really could do them and to please sir, may I have another, but I digress.
My dual Opteron still has 50ish left and a good number of those should run the distance. If we can get enough long work units, Free-DC is within reach. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Unless Phoenix Falling had managed to shrub a lot, they're in grasp. Though the top teams doesn't show it yet on the LHC project page itself, if one looks at our team in the specific we now have
http://lhcathome.cern.ch/team_display.php?teamid=10
Quote: | Total credit 817,864.60
Recent average credit 2,059.08 |
as of this post. The top team page still shows
http://lhcathome.cern.ch/top_teams.php?sort_by=total_credit
Quote: | 14 Phoenix Rising 60 992.37 818,077.07 International
15 The Knights Who Say Ni! 150 1,939.44 815,868.32 International |
as of this posting. I've still got 31 WUs, however a great number I did get this batch were also short. Throw A Shrubbery's shrubs into my own with no doubt some others still out there, and I'm assuming we'll get Phoenix this time... |

Yup, we passed them today... It's just a matter of time before their server updates to reflect this on the top team page. Probably when the XML files get exported, the stat sites will be showing us in the lead |

I only got 25 this time around, and mostly the really short ones. Kept doing the communication deferred thing. Switched some things around this time, going to see if that will work. Unless of course I just work on getting my 3 digit scores up to 4 digit scores. _________________ When in doubt, kick it until it works. |

Not sure why you got communication deferred. Suspending all projects but LHC, and then temporarily boosting the cache size to 4, 5, (or perhaps 6 if you know it's an 8 day deadline and not 7, and that there are looking to be a number of short WUs) days to grab units really helps. Then setting it back after one got them.
Actually, after A Shrubbery taunted me last, I explored the next stage in micro-managing, beyond that however
Not sure if this will help you next time around... |

Had them all set to no new work except for LHC, bumped it up to a 10 day cache which got me 11 WU's. I'd have all 11 done within 6 hrs. I also have 10 BOINC projects ready to go with all the same resource share in case i'm needed on a project. That might have been the problem. LHC now has a 1000 share (50%) while the other 9 have a 100 share (5%) _________________ When in doubt, kick it until it works. |

Suspending all the WUs (the next step), so it then asks for another cache load is the next step. Just be careful doing this as not to get over-committed, though the server will also estimate when it thinks the work can't be done.
In this case, when all the individual LHC WUs are suspended, it will then ask for a new cache load. Repeat as necessary, re-start BOINC (so one doesn't have multiple WUs all in memory), and then it should run off EDF mode... |

It is nice though when you see a request like this...
Code: | 2006-06-02 02:21:20 [LHC@home] Requesting 1728000 seconds of new work
|
But this might be why I wasn't getting alot..
Code: | 2006-05-22 00:57:54 [LHC@home] Message from server: (won't finish in time) Computer on 8.2% of time, BOINC on 98.1% of that, this project gets 9.1% of that |
I'm not always running BOINC though as I'm running several other projects. I may have to tweak some things here. |

Don't worry Brian, we've got them. Just need to wait till the stats update. Another couple hours.
As for Dagger, you must suspend the other projects if you want LHC to pick up more. Even then I tend to get that message about not finishing even when I know it will with days to spare.
Never thought about suspending the LHC work units to grab more. I supose it would work but I'd feel horrible if I grabbed up units that I couldn't finish on time. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

It won't let a person, on grounds of the message he saw above. Temporarily (or perhaps more permanently) upping the resource share for the project would take care of that...
From what I'm gathering, the client thinks about what it will complete running round robin, not in EDF mode or whatever, so it tends to end early. The trick is knowing what the computer can really shrub, and then in my case I'm still a bit conservative on deadlines, giving it an extra day or 2 then I know it would need if they did all run straight through without terminating early. |
