That's why you grab them when you can. All boxes now back to normal operation. Soon as EDF ends, the other projects will resume. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Did I screw up my acronyms again? I really must watch that. Emergency deadline processing, whatever Boinc calls that.
On a semi-related note. The single CPU processor that so unnearved Son Goku is back to crunching climate. Seems it's not too concerned about the LHC wu's that are left. Course it's an Athlon M running at 2.8ish so it does about 20-25 a day. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Ok, so should I set my boinc to suspend the lhc, or set my preferences to 0, (if it's allowed), so I can use the resources for rah and seti, or should I let it just sit there until there's more stuff to download. What's the best way to go here... _________________ Confucious say, "Man who lay girl on hill, not on level"

If you want to crunch LHC when work units are ready, then do nothing. Your computer will request additional work several times a day, but won't use any significant processor time on LHC until work units are actually available. LHC doesn't have a continuous stream of work because the Swiss Elves must analyze completed work (electrons get extremely dizzy after 100K to 1 million revolutions) before issuing another batch. The pattern seems to be something like 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off...
If you do not want to crunch LHC, then detach from the project or click the "No New Work" button. |

Yeah, that's fine if you don't mind having your message tab filled with "LHC@home - No work from project..."
Just detach and if they're worth their salt they'll send an email. Hell, it's been a couple of weeks now. |

They don't e-mail, in fact the scientists know there is new work the same way you do. It appears in your queue. The work generation is automated and controlled by some guy in Canada.
The pattern is fairly predictable. Work tends to be released roughly once per month and is gone within 3 days. If you want to get some, leave your computer requesting it. If this doesn't suit your needs it won't affect the project as there are more than enough computers actively searching for those shrubs and they all get done fast. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Nah, EDF mode works. Earliest deadline first essentially...
For the person who inquired, it's the sort of "panic mode" that BOINC goes into when it thinks (either rightly or wrongly) that the CPU is over-committed and won't be able to complete the WUs in time. It then processes by earliest deadline to try to get as much done as possible... If one's careful in how they sorta micro-manage this, it will get it all in time...
Anyhow, once it's outa this panic state, it returns to what is refered to in the software as "round robin" crunching, which is what you normally see. At this time, work fetch also gets re-enabled, if the invocation of EDF mode was sufficient enough to disable this also... |

Why detach? If you're that concerned about it, you can just disable new tasks download for the project, and check the site periodically. The only problem with this, is what can happen to long term debt, but as someone mentioned on the LHC board, it's possible to edit the .xml file for longterm debt to the project, so as to make it appear BOINC owes it a lot of crunch time... Careful doing that however, and be sure to get the write line/look at River's post on it, so you don't goof up your client if you decide |

I thank thee Sir Shrubbery. I was also less than 250 miles away from you as the crow flies today. (In Vancouver) |

Ah, Vancouver Island, B.C. What a gorgeous place. Real God's country there. I took a four-day salmon trip out of a fishing camp in Port Renfrew 10 years ago. Awesome! We slew the springs, silvers, and pinks. One of the best times of my life. I'd love to do it again with my boys now that they're fisherman. We saw lots of bald eagles and whales to boot! Got some great video.
We had dropped off the fish to get smoked and canned in Sook on our way back to California. There was so much of it, Canadian customs held it up to verify that our catch was legal. The cannery (who took careful inventory of our catch species and numbers) confirmed it, and thankfully, we got our shipment after a two week delay. |

I managed to grab a goodly quantity this time around - enough to bring my RAC up to something respectable - guess I should really keep the project active this time around as I've missed out on far to many waves of scrubs.
Ni!

I've been fishing out of Port Renfrew.. was a nice out that day as well. Dad caught a 47 lb salmon that day. I was busy driving the boat. I'm on the mainland atm. |

That's a SLAB. My biggest was 30 lb but I caught it on 8-lb test and the guide had to chase him around because I was getting spooled and I couldn't turn his head! He was hesitant to tie his terminal tackle on my little spinning outfit but after a couple of beers he relented. Needless to say, I went back to his heavier gear after that one! I've got a pic somewhere, I'll try to post it later. |

Don't wish to be a spoil sport but talking about salmon does not really fit in the LHC thread.
