While trying to restore a backup recently we ran into several problems, being caused by the size of the backup, or better: the size of the database. Therefore we will reduce that size by deleting all threads that have not been posted to in 45 days(*). We used to have (and we have now) pruning after 80 days for most forums. In recent months we had no pruning at all.

Exceptions are ‘announcements’ and the forum Brother Maynard's Pizzeria and Library of Ancient Wisdom. If there is anything worth keeping, members can pm Sir Hamster of Elderberry and ask him to move a thread there.

Of course members can keep threads alive by posting to threads that are about to be deleted. If that keeping alive has any use, it’s ok. If it looks like it is just to keep the thread alive we will not be pleased and might [edit] act accordingly .

Since on the new server we have all maintenance possibillities we could wish for, we have no more db-size problems. To be on the cautious side we left pruning in place but we adjusted the limits:
